Anyone make their own hot sauce? Hubby LOVES hot sauce. Especially Chipotle hot sauce. Wanting to make some this year. Anyone have any recipes they like?
I don't make hot sauce, but I do make a fresh batch of pico de gallo every couple of days.
It's a mix of chopped: jalapeno, onion, tomato, garlic, and a little salt. Some people add cilantro.
I found the following website last summer when reading up on hot sauce. I didn't try any though.
Be aware that here in the south there is "hot sauce" and "pepper sauce" which are two entirely different things and made differently. The rest of the country uses both terms interchangeably. So, you might run into recipes called hot sauce that are really pepper sauce and vice versa.
I am not a hot sauce guy, I do like horseradish & black pepper.
I worked with a few guys who like to grow the very hot peppers for their sauce & the only thing they would say is to layer the heat from different pepper was best.
I just buy Cholula. My kid is addicted to that stuff. I hate vinegar with a passion, and Cholula doesn't have a vinegar taste like most hot sauce, so it's one of my favorites too...
