31 of 40 but I'm a cowboy not a redneck.

38, as I don't honesty recall plucking turkey/chicken, or harvesting wild ginseng. I may very well have done both as a tot, as these were certainly activities that the family routinely did. I don't necessarily associate all of these things as being redneck, but certainly activities common in the more rural areas of America.

The one question that separates rednecks and cowboys is: have you started a fight without a need? Rednecks are always looking for a fight. Cowboys just don't walk away from a fight that needs to be fought.

32. It would be 35 if the three below count. Not bad for a Kansas born, Texas raised California girl born to two New Yorkers. ;) I grew up eating only the game my dad shot and put on the table when I was little. I grew up raising livestock and meat rabbits. I want that same life for Roo and Juju. I think Roo is going to be my dirty scruffy tomboy who has axle grease on her face from fixing some large piece of equipment. Juju is much more girly.

1. Owned pellet or BB gun as a kid? No but I own one now. She's my stray cat deterrent.
4. Gone squirrel or rabbit hunting? Does catching live wild rabbits and hares count? Bare handed no snares.
35. Carved your initials into a tree? No. I carved them in to a wood handrail in line for Splash Mountain at Disneyland

I agree. This is more of a country person than a redneck thing.

Score of 29

What I have not:
1. Owned pellet or BB gun as a kid? (I was a girl. Girls didn't have guns in my family or many families)
4. Gone squirrel or rabbit hunting? (Girl)
8. Gathered wild ginseng? (Where is that at?)
19. Tasted wild honeysuckle? (Where is that?)
20. Gathered wild blackberries? (nope)
23. Smelled the scent of cured tobacco hanging in tobacco barn? (I guess I'm considered a Yankee? Never been in "the South.")
30. Dipped skoal or chewed chewing tobacco or (applied it to a BEE STING?) (Nope! Yuck!)
31. Eaten homemade snow Ice Cream? (Sorry Phideaux!)
35. Carved your initials into a tree? (would have had to have had a pocket knife. I only got one as an adult. It was considered a boy thing)
36. Sucked on a piece of water hose to siphon gas out of a gas tank? (Nope)
40. Eaten fried bologna (Never! We never did this growing up, but my cousins did)

We had horses when I grew up in the northern NC Piedmont. Tobacco was the #1 cash crop. Honeysuckle syrup & Blackberrys off briars were good summer snacks when playing in the woods & creek. Going to the weekly rodeo should be up there. I thought one day I would ride a bull. I haven’t yet.

- I’ve never owned a gun, went hunting or plucked a chicken.
- I’ve never tried frog legs or found ginseng.
- I didn’t know cars used to have a manual choke.
- Port-a-john’s don’t count as an outhouse.
- I can’t remember carving initials into a tree, though it sounds like something I would do.
- I haven’t spent time on a true animal farm so the bottle, rooster & eggs are out.

The rest, yes. Good memories

30/40. There's no 'Sang here, no tobacky, I've made homemade ice cream but not from snow. Never bothered with blackberries but I've picked a lot of other wild stuff. Never had a wood stove, never bothered to carve into a tree, and never raised chickens...Oh, and who tastes honeysuckle? That's a weed here...

Oh, you're missing out on the chicken raising thing, Spike.
It's an addiction. Really.
When I was a kid, nobody had chickens in my area. They were considered a waste of time. There wasn't any money in it. Then in the 90s when all the city slickers started buying up the acreages, they all thought they wanted chickens. Most found out the hard way that it's a lot of work.

One guy from my church had chickens. I think something like 20 thousand of them in four big buildings. I worked for him a few times. There was no plucking involved - you just put 'em on a semi truck and sent 'em away...

I can answer no to only 8, 19, and 23. The rest were daily or often.

MyNew Yorker mom introduced me to the honeysuckles. I did that all through my childhood after that! Yummy! If I found any out here I'd show the girls.
