It seems the broader topic threads are easier to talk to so I guess I'll get this going. I've not hunted for a couple years. Neither of us hunted last year (2020) But Hubby has his buck and bull tag for this year so was out earlier practicing with his bow as one of his tags is archery which he loves. Also, this Friday, we are scheduled to go out halibut fishing. Will be my first time ocean fishing. Love to eat the things.
So you huntin' yet? Fishing? Chime in. Tell a whopper ;)

The last deer I killed was with my truck! She was tasty! I was only 1/2 mile from home so I tossed the doe in the back. Best part, my nephews had been hunting all day down in the bottoms. They had just come to the house empty handed when I got home. They had the doe cleaned and cut up in about 20 minutes. Best hunt I was ever on!!

This is her!!

Out here that's a poaching charge, unless you have a deer tag. Then that's a charge of hunting with an unauthorized weapon.

If someone calls the cops or the game warden here the only question would be "Can I get a ham or a backstrap?"
If you call the game warden he'll sell you a permit to make it legal to take. Otherwise it's a crime and you have to leave them to the coyotes...

I usually try to put up 3 deer a year that's about all we use in that time. I've never been horn hunter, I grew up hunting food but we don't rely on it as much these days. I probably wouldn't even do that if I didn't have a kid to teach.

I've kind of gotten away from hunting. Never been a deer hunter, but I enjoy hunting pheasants. I get more happiness from seeing the bird dogs do their thing than I do from shooting a bird.

The last thing I "hunted" was ground squirrels at my dad's farm last year. They were tearing up his yard, and I'm happy to report that the hunt was quite successful!

I have been getting some fishing done this summer. With the heat and the low water, the lake I usually fish has not produced real well this year...

Just got back from a quick trip to the Bristol Bay area to load up on sockeye. We vacuum sealed 45 sockeyes for the freezer and smoked a couple dozen more. Here are some ready to be taken back to our place and put in the freezer. I’ve had more productive trips, but this was still a nice catch.

I quit deer and elk hunting years ago. It got to the point of being more trouble than it was worth. There were way more hunters morons shooting from their trucks than game.
I tried waterfowl hunting then one freezing cold December morning I realized I was not having fun. Sitting in a blind freezing my butt off before daylight was not a good time. To top it all off I didn't really like to eat ducks or geese.
I do like to fish but even that has lost a lot of appeal.

It's funny this topic came up today.... I was just thinking that I need to eat down the freezer between now and September. For me the day you can get your license and opening day of each season are personal holidays. :) I also like to hunt the very last day of the season, just to say I was out there when it was really miserable.....

I grew up in a very small town. We got "Deer Day" and "Elk Day" off from school. Opening day of each season since half the school would be out if they didn't. 😁

Some folks. In my area do eat them.
I do not....I hate them .

Wabbits , is a different story.
I love them.

Anyone who eats a damn groundhog, is a braver soul than I am.

I'm not a huge fan of eating bunny rabbits either, but if somebody has cooked some up and offered it to me I wouldn't say no. Bunny is nowhere near as good as squirrel, but it can be edible. It's just not worth the hassle of shooting one and then dressing it for a few ounces of very average tasting meat...

You as well, all my dogs are crossbred. Out of true crossbreds Or xbred as they say. Been doing it for years myself. Most of my dogs are at least an 1/16-1/4 blue tick. As well
My first hounds was blueticks. I do have a plott and cur for squirrels. But I’ve always been parcel to the blue dogs. It was 2014 when I got my first hounds and I ain’t looked back since. As you know that gets in your blood. Going by your name I’m guessing you’re in the volunteer state as well?

A six point we got last year. My son didn’t pull the trigger but he was there for the whole thing. And just one of the many coon hunts! As you can see I never hit the woods alone! Just another blessing! View attachment 69873
Great picture!!

I had a fearless, crazy, wonderful dog that would climb trees. He was crazy enough to also think he could actually catch what he was chasing up the tree. Occasionally he did. Somehow he survived the transition to Alaska where the critters he chased would sometimes chase him back almost to his and my demise. Thanks for bringing back great memories of that wonderful crazy dog with the pick of your tree climbing dog! My current dog, a beagle, has been trained better for Alaska.

I don’t have pics to back it up but that hound will climb anything the worst is when he trees up widow makers I don’t know how many trees I’ve shimmy up to get him out also pulled him from a cave or two and many holes when a coon would den up under ground There is a third dog down in the hole of this picture 3A61CDF8-423A-4F5A-ABF7-70AAA052C53A.jpeg
