All of the above except I don't think our MickyD's had the chef guy. We got our first McDonalds in 68 or 69.

Not only do I remember them but I had or bought every single one of the mat one time or other.

I remember when my parents brought home a calculator and a phone that hung on the wall where the rotary dialer was on the handset instead of the part mounted on the wall. Impressive technology. Very futuristic!

Now, I never had one of these,

But , when I was a boy , living with my grampa and grndma, , this is what they had, and I remember them talking about a party line, and somebody always on there,
They could only talk to 2 or 3 neighbors,
No numbers , just crank and whoever answered the party line....I think....best I can recollect.

But , that phone is still in my family , I think my sister has it.

I also remember that they had this sitting right under that wall phone.

Jim- I remember everything in the first set of pictures. The picture of the McDonalds is from the original Ray Kroc store in DesPlaines, Illinois, (which is being demolished this year along with the "Rock & Roll McDonalds" located in the Chicago River North neighborhood. I also remember the 2nd Burger King that was built in Chicago on the corner of West 79th street and Seeley avenue. Our 8th grade class luncheon consisted of their 15 cent burgers and 5 cent fries.

Jim- The Burger King started out at 15 cents, (at the time McDonalds were 12 cents). There was a White Castle at 71st. Street and Western Ave. Every Thursday the Southtown Economist (local newspaper) ran a coupon in the food section with a coupon for White Castle Hamburgers 5 for 25 cents. My mother would send me walking over to White Castle with the coupon and $1.04, (the cost of the food plus tax) and we had sliders for supper. There was also another burger joint that also served ice cream. It was Prince Castle and they invented a square ice cream scoop.

My father worked as a bench & floor machinist. He would bring home large stainless steel ball bearings. I was a terror in playground marble games!
I also rememkber the "Duncan Yo-Yo" guy that would come around to my grammar school playground at recess time and peddle yo-yo's & strings to all us little window lickers.

We had one of these right up to 1978. We got it around 1972. I really did live in a time warp. Our number was 3 longs and a short. The phone rang in every house and you had to listen for the pattern. It was a real pain in the patootie getting any sleep. Sometimes they would go on the blink and ring in every house for hours on end until we learned how to disconnect the battery. After that, my brother would take it off the wall and bring it to our 2 room country school and we would use it to play chicken. All the kids would hold hands in a big circle with the first kid holding the wires while another kid cranked the bejesus out it. The first one to let go was, you guessed it, a chicken. Some times, one of the bigger kids could get all our hair to stand up at the same time. Good times.

There were twenty families on the line which our parents had to install themselves to even get a telephone. I was on the telephone pole peeling brigade after school. No privacy at all but if help was needed, no need to ring, just tell who ever was on there to spread the word. My first university application was rejected because I put Sob Lake 1C as my phone #; they thought it was a prank of some kind. After that, I had to use the telephone # of the high school in town 70 miles away.

I never saw all those toys you all did until after I left home in 1977. We did have steelies for marbles though, they were the wore out bearings they used for crushing molybdenite at the mine up north. They also made wicked sling shot ammo.

I remember all but the McDonald's one.

Anyone still running one of these?

Do you remember the 4 track players. They didn't last long. After playing one track, you had to listen to blank tape playing instead of rewind or switching channels.like I said, 8 track followed very quickly and made them obsolete. My first 8 track was Eric Burden and the Animals!

I don't recall my first 8-track but I do remember my first 45.

Grand Funk Railroad. I'm Your Captain. When I eventually bought the album I was confused because I'm Your Captain was nearly twice as long. I came to find out there were many songs that were shortened to fit the radio format.

I remember the shows but didn't watch enough to know much about them. I was one of those kids that you couldn't keep in the house.
