Indian Cucumber

Medeola virginiana or Indian Cucumber, I found it blooming today on a forest floor, old hardwood. There were hundreds of them.

The root is edible and tastes like a cucumber. It’s white, shaped like a carrot and about 2 inches long.

Its Hexastylis arifolia aka Little Brown Jug. Its a ginger substitute.
