I read a book this past winter about him, by someone who went to school with him and knew him. Very sad how badly he had been treated. I’ll see if I can locate it for details, title. One story that I remember was how when he and two others from the boarding school, just kids, went into the store in town and the store owner shot one of the boys for maybe stealing a piece of candy. Real discrimination.
The book must be buried somewhere. Young adult, like a Landmark. Will find it….

Seems like (if I'm remembering correctly) my Gpa was trying to get a horse loaded into a trailer. Jim Thorpe was half lit and passing by. He offered to load the horse for the price of a bottle. Deal. He got the horse to load into the trailer, Gpa paid him, and they both went on their way.

He was such a gifted athlete. The way he was treated was criminal. How many others from all walks of life were lost because they were never given a chance.
