Just mention fig newtons to 5he Princess and she will get up and start doing the fig newton dance.

She actively tries to get me to roll my eyes but after 35 years I am immune.

I had a hovercraft. It had four directional fins and two quarter circle shrouds. You could close the fins and the shrouds would redirect the air forward creating a reverse. I would back it off the trailer or use it to brake. it worked the same way the umbrella worked. The propeller was always in forward.
