Has there ever been a National Day of mourning officially proclaimed before this day?
My son works for the DOD and he gets Wed. off also.
He said they also had off for President Reagan.

It's fine to close government offices for a day and lose the billion dollars worth of manpower on a whim. After all we have such a rich country with tons of money stockpiled.

The U.S. Postal Service and other federal government offices will not open Wednesday morning, closing as part of a national day of mourning for President George H.W. Bush, who died Friday.

President Donald Trump declared Dec. 5 as a national day of mourning, calling on the country to honor the 94-year-old former president.

All federal government offices, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed. A state funeral will be held at the Washington National Cathedral that day, beginning at 11 a.m., Washington, D.C., time.

Some special package mail delivery will still take place Wednesday, but regular mail delivery will be stopped until Thursday.

Days of mourning are recognition given to a select few — in the U.S. usually commanders in chief — and involve memorial activities, flying flags at half-staff and other remembrances. Other Presidents to receive the honor include Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon.

    Here you go.....
    http://fortune.com/2018/12/04/george-hw-bush-national-day-mourning-closures/
there were several other sites as well....

Yes, I agree that it does indeed seem very suspect. It's almost like someone wants us to stay home tomorrow. Unfortunately I have to work, but I did do quite a bit of shopping today. Quite a coincidene that all of it is happening on the same exact day.......which is exactly why I did a bit of stocking up today.

It's not the closures that I find suspect, it's the timing of it all that I find coincidental as it relates to the Congressional hearings that were scheduled on that day.

I still think it's overkill for a former presidental funeral. Although, for a sitting president I think it would be appropriate. Just my 2 cents though.

I really hope you don't believe President Bush planned it... ;)

There's been 45 Presidents in our Country's history. They all deserve their due, regardless of what Congress had planned for the day. Congress has another day to work their agenda. A deceased President doesn't.

    I just find it coincidental......like I said.
McCains funeral was held 8 days after his death. Bush.....5 days. For his funeral to fall exactly on the 5th, when it very well could have been a different day, with everything else going on, does seem very suspect to me.

I believe we ALL deserve our due. I just don't think that requires everything (especially mail and stock market) to be shut down for everyone else. Again, that's MY 2 cents.

No, Former President Bush didn't plan the day of his death, but a whole bunch of people could work to find the best day in the next week or two to divert attention from something to today, December 5. There is always something going on in the background that is being covered up or not released so that we, the peasants, will revolt against.

We were supposed to get a announcement on the continuing resolution today. It looks like they kicked the can down the road until Dec 21. I'm confident they will figure it all out 3 days before Christmas.

The only things closed today were the post office and the public part of the 1 federal building in town.
