We escorted my buddy "Chance" over the bridge today. He came from a rescue when he was 3 and we had 11 good years with him. He didn't have any talent for hunting or retrieving and he was a terrible guard dog, but he was a fantastic companion. Rest easy, buddy..."Good boy"

My dogs would love you, Meerkat. I just finished cooking 5 whole chickens. They got the skin.
I went out to feed the turkeys, ducks, and chickens, and one of our dogs left half a snake for me. It appears he ate the other half. It must not of tasted very good, because half is on the doormat.

Well we do be extra nice to the old one and since the other two smell it they have to get a little bit too. But this old dog loves raw food, but she was raised on plain old non grain food.
Hubbys niece said " when I die I want to come back as one of y'alls pets " .

It is really getting bad, for us all! She is not wanting to get up now and on second thought yall are right about we should have her put to sleep. It is really hurting us both to see her suffer and now we are just waiting and that is not a good place to be.
Vet is 30 miles away and van is not runnign and don't want to put her in back so we prayed really hard last night for God to please take her so she won't suffer.

Came on on another forum so thought I'd continue i here.

Dogs are our best friends probably because they can't speak or have opinions.

DON'T CRY!
They may not use words, but I think they communicate in many ways.

When I arrived at my daughter's house today, this darling showed her joy at seeing me. She got out of bed, came to greet me, and then ran around, back and forth, being playful, to show how happy she was to see me. She hadn't seen me since Friday. She knows I feed her, take her for many walks, take her to the dog park where she has some favorite friends, dogs and people. I go out and visit other dogs during the day, and on some of those visits, she goes with me to walk other dogs. She knows she won't be stuck at home with little going on and little activity when I am on duty.

I think she has opinions about which way we are going, when and if we should leave the dog park now, if she should get another treat. She also lets you know when she wants to go home, and to bed. If I have no other appointments, I let her have input. I am there to take care of her.

She loves to lay in the grass. Today we were out for a walk and she decided to lay down. I waited for her for a while, let her enjoy laying in the grass, which she really does love. I sat down and waited, maybe 5 minutes. Sometimes I have to be careful if I have a timeline or an agenda. If we walk across the grass, she will lay down and stay there, because she likes it.

I don't know if I have told the part of why I take care of her everyday? Before she was 6 months old, her belly filled up with fluid and it had to be drained. When she was spayed, they looked at her liver and saw that it was scarred. She had to have her belly drained maybe 4 times in her first year. At one time, the vet wanted to put her down at about 8 months. The vet said she wouldn't live to be a year. My daughter begged if they could try medication or other options. They put her on several medications. They have been working!

My daughter is a busy girl, always on the go. The dog was in a crate too much. I told her I would watch the dog when she had places to go and things to do so she wouldn't have a miserable life. That is why the dog and I just spend so much time having a nice time, doing dog activities. In November, she will be 3 years old. We never would have expected her to live this long. Neither did the vets. I thought I was giving up a few months of my life so that the dog would have a more pleasant short life. We think that has probably extended her life.

In the process, I have been approached by people to do professional pet care on someone else's clock and schedule. I can't. I have a priority. I have had several people approach me to let their dogs out, feed them and walk them during the day. I can and do that.

Spikedriver and Meerkat, I found losing one of our dogs was one of the hardest things I went through in recent years. It was a struggle to let go and put her down, but it was best, and overdue. Spikedriver, my condolences. Best to you Meer. I know it is not easy.

Weedy ,what a sweet story and glad the dog has you in its life since daughter is so busy.
Nice looking doggy.

Reading this, with my little buddy laying next to me, gives me a pit in the stomach. Meerkat, I'm doing some heavy praying for you.

Spike, my condolences go out to you and your family.

Thank you Havasu.. She is still eagerly eating like she is always has and drinking water. She never cries out or whines so not sure she is in pain. She doesn't act like it anyway. Most dogs will show if in pain.

People like you here and others help deal with it. :Thankyou::huggs:

Thank you, Meer. She is a joy to spend time with. She gives me laughs everyday. When we go out on our walks, she is always looking for rabbits. She is a hunter.

Weedy your dog looks alot like Alice did when she was younger. She was a little lighter in color.
She had a white tip on all her paws, tail and under her neck.

She laid around a lot but not once did she act like she was in pain or yelp or whine but mostly walked around with tail wagging and us taking turns leading her with DIY sling walker we made.
She loved to eat till last couple days before she passed.
She seemed to handle it better than us. She was never alone either us or her buddy was always with her.

I know you will miss her.

I just did a quick search and posted and was confused for a minute about where I had posted.
I wouldn't care if they merged the two, mines smaller so may be easier to merge with the big one, don't know? @Angie

Just to share a little factoid about our dog, Jack:

Bedtime goes like this. The AC gets turned on around 11pm or sometime 10. He slides right in, to cool off as well, gets comfy and goes sleepy-bye.
Around 2.30am or 3, he's awake, sitting and waiting for the door to be opened for him so he can finish the night in the living room or the corridor.

If I sleep too much and don't wake up, he'll bark once. One high-pitched bark. That's enough to wake me up and he's sitting there staring at me in the dark, waiting for me to open the door.

Usually though, I can feel his stare in my sleep. That's how well he has trained me. 😂

They keep us on a schedule😊

I do not have a dog, but if I got one it would have to be a working dog, with skills & stuff.
