I don't believe that I have introduced our families dog Ruby. Actually she is our grandsons dog. Ruby is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. And our 3rd chessy. The first 2 were males. She is almost 4 years old. We don't hunt with her per say. I am training her to hunt moose antlers. She is a great guard dog. And very obedient. And for a chessy she is only needs a soft hand. And I have to say, the brightest dog we have ever had.
Since we are not professional breeders we had her spayed. And this dog will hunt FB_IMG_1634915968485.jpgFB_IMG_1634915928632.jpgFB_IMG_1634915786557.jpgFB_IMG_1634915877269.jpgFB_IMG_1634915793265.jpgFB_IMG_1634915574090.jpg

Thank you. We enjoy the chessy breed as they can cope with our wether. It's been freezing rain or 20 degrees n snowing. She still curls up outside my our our grandsons bedroom window at night instead of sleeping in her insulated house with a cushion. Typically chessy. And wear your arm out fetching. I have her on hand control now for retrieving. Come to my whistle, sit, back, wait, hunt it up.
Her body is developed enough to put a dog freight harness on her now. I would like to see if she will weight pull. She will get trained to pull a sled with the grandkids. Our kids had their chessys on a hike command. Seems as long as you're willing to share time with them doing what you do they are all in. Doing whatever you want them to as long as you're playing with them.
Hey I would like to share some things we've learned about dogs that can develop hip problems. We feed science diet dog food with the thought that the extra cost now saves in vet bills in the long run. And helps to keep proper weight in check. But more importantly in my non pro opinion is that she has a soft bed in her dog house. When she uses it. To help her hip bones n muscles relax better. And I feed her Ester C vitamin capsules in each feeding. We buy the close dated ones off the net. Lots of chew toys that we rotate through to keep them fun. And moose antlers make the best chew. We generally keep one for times when she can get more excited like the new years n fireworks are exploding. She could care less about the noise but barks with the neighborhood dogs.
Chessys are a unique breed. And fit our lifestyle perfectly

Nice, my favorite dog was named Ruby. She was a red merle.
I had a Ruby, too. She was a Pug.

Thank you for not breeding her and getting her spayed. Most people should NOT breed their dogs but so many think because their dogs are pure bred, they should breed their dog. That is not true.

So 2 days ago a stray dog shows up. 30' from our rabbits. I stepped out on the back deck n holler at it. It moves closer. I go to chase it away. I double check that the gate is closed. I don't want a dog fight.
Then I see a flash of yellow streak by me. I hollered stop but I've never seen that dog run that fast. She had that other dog in her target. And was going to protect her family.
That other dog split as fast as possible. And hopefully won't be coming back. Ruby chases this dog, 60 pound range. Past our sons house n out to the road. Turns around n runs right past me. Then gets back to our property line Turns around n sits. Looking at me . Like what's next that was fun. I get to her , she rifles off n circles the back property line to double check on things runs n beats me to the gate she unlocked. If we don't put a chip in it to lock it she easily opens it. Probably a good thing it wasn't locked because she would have found a way out.
We go up on the deck n do a few rounds of fetch. All good in Ruby's world all good in our families world.
Yeah this dog hunts but her main job is protecting our home. And she has proved up on this very well.
And grow up together with our grandson keeping him happy safe
