Our "Heavy Duty" Singer has bit the dust, it won't stay in time, so something is amiss. It worked good new, but over the years (and really not so many years) it's gotten worse. Rather than fix it, I would like to get a better mechanical machine. We hem pants, jeans, curtains etc, so nothing really crafty right now.

We're looking for something under ~300 bucks, and would welcome feedback on the list below, and any additional machines the wise sewers here would recommend we look at also.

The three so far are:

Janome MOD-19

Janome 2212 Sewing Machine

Bernette 33 Swiss Design Sewing Machine

My thanks in advance for any advice/feedback :)

I have had a Janome 2212 that I gave to a cousin so she would have a decent machine. I believe in Janome. It has a vertical bobbin, not one of the horizontal bobbins like the computer machines use. I really liked the 2212.
I'd get one of these again.

The MOD-19 looks okay, but I don't know it. Looking at the images on Amazon about it, I'd buy it. 7 more stitches then 2212, and horizontal bobbin.
I'd be comfortable with this one.

I've had many of the Janome brands and have given a few to family and friends that need a machine. They ALL work extremely well.

And I'm hard on machines and sew many miles with them each year.

The one you linked is a nice price. I was expecting to see near or over $1000. My machine is a 30 year old Singer that still works fine, but I would like to have one for extra fun stuff like embroidery and serging.
@Angie and @Sewingcreations15 what kinds of stuff do you make/sew? I think I've asked you this before but tell me again.

We got a Janome My Style 100 from the local shop, with a nice discount from MSRP. My DW used it yesterday and loved it, so I am happy. Thank you all for your advice :)
Photos! Must have photos, wife with machine, just machine, you and machine, dog looking on near machine. Congratulations. What kinds of stuff will you or your s/o be making?

The dog got a new ball, and was busy playing, so he declined to participate. Here is my sweetie with the new machine.

And Teddy's newest ball is below:)

LOVE IT! Cool carry case. I like the pretty pink fingernails too :)
I'm surprised it wasn't a more difficult looking machine and it is smaller than I thought it would be too. lol
Is it lightweight?
And it's new?

It's brand new, and the only mechanical machine the shop carried. It's pretty much the same size and weight as the "heavy duty" Singer it's replacing. Carry case came from Amazon. Tuesday was her manicure day, you got to see the new color :)

I really like the machine, and it isn't new age all techy computerized, like you said, it is a mechanical machine. Oft times I've wished I could have had me ol' granny's machine, the non-electric treadle machine. Loved that thing. But at least with a mechanical, if the electricity fails you can still turn the wheel yourself to get the needle going...

I was a dumb teenager and newly married. For some reason I thought wives made clothes from scratch (my mother didn't) and over my new Bride's objections I bought her the top of the line Singer. Drop in a different plastic cam and you'd get a different style/pattern of stitch. Real nice real wood cabinet came with it. After all these years she uses it ... to store stuff on top of it.

I make doll clothes for 6 inch dolls. It's an antique reproduction is Hitty doll from 1830, and then the same clothes are for the 6.5 inch American girl mini dolls.

I sew for my 18 inch American Girl dolls. This is a favorite outfit I made. I wanted a Folkloric dress.

Years ago I did this for Barbie doll for a friend = the red spots on the sleeves are set in, not appliqued on. Hardest dress I've made.

Outfit to match a skater's outfit when doing "Nutcracker on Ice"

Best Wedding dress I've made. This dress was made from a drawing and a couple of Lord of the Ring photos.

And the biggest is the 2nd stage curtain I made for the local Ice Rink. And the Christmas tree.

And I do some paper piecing of quilt blocks, hem pants in the family, repair jackets when I was working in a cubicle.

So, I sew a variety of things.

All of the above were sewn with a Janome sewing machine. Most of them with the 6500P.

meticulous working on doll dresses, I made a few for the girls' dolls too. :) I don't think I ever want to do something so tiny again.
The wedding dress is beautiful. I like the style.

Plus, the folklore dress is adorable and beautiful!
