Burritos in a Jar Ingredients for jar:

Dry Mix Recipe:
¾ cup pinto Fast Beans
¼ cup rice
¼ cup dehydrated onion
¼ cup dehydrated bell pepper
1 tbsp dehydrated Ro-Tel Tomatoes
1 tbsp taco seasoning
½ tsp salt

Stack dry ingredients in a pint jar in any order.
Place lid and vacuum seal or use an oxygen absorber.

When ready to serve, you will need:
2 cups liquid beef broth (You could include beef bouillon cubes or 2 tsp beef granules in the jar then simply add 2 cups of water when cooking.)
1 cup canned ground beef (Add beef when cooking the mixture.)

To prepare, dump dry ingredients into a saucepan and add the 2 cups of broth.
Simmer on medium heat for about 15 minutes until rice is not quite done.
Add the 1 cup of ground beef, cover, and continue to simmer until meat is heated through and rice is done.
Serve in warmed tortillas with cheese.

When I buy can goods it is to stock Pantry meal or surprise a group of people dropped by just before dinner.

I sliced a bunch of kale in strips and froze it, and it's held up decently...have dumped the bag in a crock pot twice when making a thick soup. I dehydrate everything, so I always have a good selection of quick junk to throw together, and if I want meat, I just add some canned meat or leftover. I've got a ton of meals in a jar recipes that I've made and stored in mylar. So many recipes online for those. I found one today on youtube that I just sent to my nephew, he's just starting out with storing meals. It was on Rose Red Homestead, and called Dry Mix Burrito in a Jar.
3/4 cup fast beans (that could be cooked, dehydrated black beans or pinto beans, or whatever beans)
1/4 cup white rice
1/4 cup dehydrated onion
1/4 cup dehydrated bell pepper
1 Tablespoon dehydrated Rotel or just some dried hot pepper
1 Tablespoon taco seasoning
1/2 Teaspoon salt

Add 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, cover and simmer 20 minutes. Can add cooked hamburger
I would also add a pulverized bouillon cube (beef or chicken)

Looks pretty good, she made it online. Wrapped in flour tortillas.
Reading through the thread and saw your reference to the video I posted this morning. She has been working on this for a while and is learning and sharing what she has learned. I've been looking for her video about drying ground beef.

When my kids were smaller I used to make this.. Still do occasionally..

Road Kill Stew...
Boil a pound of ground meat well crumbled.. Drain off most of the fat..
Boil about half the spaghetti needed to make a full pot.. Broken into 1" pieces..
A bag of frozen mixed veggies..
A can of diced potatoes..
LIGHTLY.. Spice with black pepper, garlic powder, minced onion, beef soup base.. NOT bullion.. too salty..
Simmer until heated through..
