Radon gas has to collect in a place to become hazardous. Ventilation is the #1 retrofit. In new construction an air barrier works well or a ventilated sleeve between the foundation and earth. If you have a crawl space all you need to do is allow adequate ventilation which is normally done for moisture anyway.
Some areas have too much radon. I would research as much as I could to find out if my house was in a high risk area and go above and beyond what would be "good enough" for ventilation if I got a poor or high level test result. My understanding is that radon gasses rise.
Have you had a test done?
