Somehow we ended up getting two slow cookers, a small base with a 200 watt heating element with about 4 quart pots to go on them. The first time we used one was out on the desert in N.W. Nevada while we were out detecting for gold. We were using the solar system on our motorhome and it was running for 8 hours during the day, so basically it wasn't running off of the house batteries, the solar panels produce 400 watts so while the slow cooker was running the batteries were getting a good charge. The first slow cooker my wife bought out of a catalog that was sent to us, the second slow cooker she found at a second hand store and since then we continue to look for them just to have extras on hand, they do a great job of cooking and are excellent to run from our solar back up system if we had to, both only consume 200 watts, my wife has an oval one that's 300 watts, we haven't used that one yet. Anyway the reason I brought this up is to alert people that run on or have solar power to look for these slow cookers, second hand stores is probably the only place they can be found anymore. Generally I don't like to run resistance type appliances off solar, however with that low of wattage, with a fairly decent size solar system, they would work exceptionally well, especially during strong sunlight hours.
