I went thru this after hubs was diagnosed with cancer. We were both declared disabled (for different reasons of course) and 2 years later automatically rolled over to Medicare. Shopped around for supplement insurance policies and ended up with United Healthcare. I am now paying $47.50, though I think it's more than that but the state is paying part of it.
When shopping, I talked with one of those 'specialists' that gave me a run down on upfront costs, coverages, copays for each of the different insurances and overall about the biggest differences was where your costs come in. Either pay higher premium and get lower copays, OR pay lower premiums and higher copays. Although I think it was Humana? Humara? that you paid up front and they reimbursed?
At the time, considering hubs medical needs/costs, I went with the least out of pocket for co-pays and that would cover any of hubs medical needs. RX, Dr visits, hospital, treatments, dental, vision, etc. I have no complaints for UHC, I still carry the same company and coverages, even though I hate DR's and haven't been to one in 4 years,......but I know that whatever may befall me and medical care is necessary, I am covered. The biggest drawback is the dental. Medicare doesn't cover it at all and UHC only covers basic preventative.
