Our televisions have been spying on us for years! Ever wonder how they know how many people are watching what? Cell phones do as well.

Unless you are living in an off the grid cabin in the deep woods and got their without a trace, something or someone is keeping tabs on you. Better my smart TV than the clock radio in the bathroom. That radio has seen things.

Because I clicked on the link about bit sharpening, I am now getting ads from Tormek on various sites. There is no privacy anymore.

    Butt weight, there's more!
In California there is something called the 'Smart Toilet'.
It analyzes your waste and adds groceries to the shopping list screen on your refrigerator door for you to ok for delivery to "correct" your diet.
    It's real, I s**t you not!
How long before machines run our lives?
Lets keep watching the left-coast. They are 'progressive' so they are years ahead of us:rolleyes:.
We'll have plenty of time to cut wires:).

    Butt weight Ha Ha.

I can't stand all this spying. Husband was talking about a new tv and I said never.
No tv's at the farm. Just an old record player.
    I would miss Gunsmoke, though.

I know if I'm changing clothes, etc. I cover the camera lens on phone or laptop or whatever internet device with a camera is around. Other times, if you want to look at me looking at a screen, you're hard up for something to look at.

I just put black nail polish over the camera lens.

The tech that allows spying is how the tech companies actually make a profit. They sell the hardware "cheap", harvest data about you, then sell it to advertising companies who in turn use it for targeting marketing.

You may not even be safe if you keep your TV offline. I've read anecdotes about TV's scanning for open WiFi networks to "phone home" in the background. Even if you connect it to a fake network (Wifi with no internet access), it'll still scan for a way to phone home. I don't remember seeing a credible confirmation of these claims, but I believe it's possible.
Because of this, some people go so far as to physically disable mic's (cut them out) and paint over cameras. You may not be able to 100% stop snooping of your electronic actions, but you sure as hell can block "sensory" snooping.

I've never seen those. I paint over the "selfie" camera. The one on the screen side.

They are self adhesive and cost something like $7 for a 6 pack of them on Amazon. Every laptop, smart phone, tablet, etc. in my house has one.

That is better than the little pieces of sticky notes that I use that eventually fall off. I am going to order a package of them.
