One of the foundations of a free society that protects individual's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, are the checks and balances on government tyranny from a press that is free to investigate and present facts to inform the public on abuses of power, corruption, and simply to help inform the masses on the issues of the days. The "free press," like most institutions, have had high water marks and low points. A parallel example was the abuses of the press around the time of the civil war where the press worked in concert to undermine President Lincoln. We can look at numerous examples today of the present state of American journalism and "mainstream media" and see multiple examples of how the press has been subverted by powers aimed to bring down western civilization and our American system of government. Proof that our media is in trouble is listed below.

Censorship and suppression of the new:

Does anyone still think a free press exists today? I had many more stories to link to from just this weeks headline, but you get the point. We do not have a free press.

Be aware and plan accordingly.

That is a shockingly brazen example of what I am speaking of. Eventually, those with courage and integrity will speak up like Glenn Greenwald did. Glenn is a diehard leftist, but he has seen the lights. Assuming that everything we have heard about Joe and Hunter Biden is true, this headline from the article you post is absolutely true:

“With the Hunter Biden Exposé, Suppression is a Bigger Scandal Than the Actual Story.”

Without a free and unbiased press, our country will not survive as we know it. Perhaps at no time since the Lincoln administration, this is the most corrupt the media has ever been. With high tech today, the reach of the press has never been this pervasive. This may make what we see today unmatched in history.

In years past I would have naively thought that a reporter or talking head on the tv was biased, right or left.

What I now know… the press was never free. The press was always a tool to control and manipulate the population. This was always expertly disguised, but no longer. This corrupt control has now been forced into the light for all to see.

We see this control being exposed in social media, advertising, sports… and most importantly politics.

Since the 80’s I’ve been telling everyone who would listen that “politics” was nothing more than a puppet show to amuse and confuse the masses… Repub/Dem were one in the same. The illusion was that they were opposing views! They were merely two arms attached to the same body. Sadly I didn't see these arms in other arenas of life.

What forced all this corruption into the light? Someone in the white house who was not part of the puppet show. There have been a few other in the past but they were eventually controlled or killed… but not this one. The harder he is pushed, the harder he pushes back.

The faceless corrupt powers that have manipulated us, my entire life, are desperate to stop this man. He is dismantling everything they’ve worked to maintain for many, many decades. Slowly but surely he is exposing their crimes and slowly bringing them to justice.

In their desperation they’ve had to reveal who they are…

It is good that Glen Greenwald has taken this stand. It tells me there are many like him who lacked the courage or opportunity to take a stand. It tells me we have the chance before us to finally have a “Free Press”, and a great many other things that were denied us and our forebearers.

Great post Peanut and I agree with what you laid out. I am hoping that Glen Greenwald’s courage inspires others to speak out. One disturbing trend that has developed this past decade are the high level CIA, NIA and FBI lifers have all retired into leading roles in mainstream media. It’s hard to find a senior person who didn’t make this move this past decade. How does that happen to the media that was apparently so distrustful of them up until Obama took office. Suddenly the cabal was exposed.

The "Free Press" is free from Gov't intervention. It is not free from the direction of the Owner, who tells the Editor, who directs the reporters and "decides by direction from above" what to cover and report on. When the elite left owns the "press", they decide what gets covered and when and how.

Peanut is right - the press has ALWAYS been biased one way or the other in every country throughout time. Usually, however, an outlet leans left or right within the context of the politics of a nation. Today, what we're seeing is the "left" isn't left of center relative to the Constitution. It's full-on Marxist, which has not a damn thing to do with our politics.

For those interested, here's a link to Greenwald's article. Here's The 'Censored' Biden Story That Forced Glenn Greenwald To Quit The Firm He Founded

That is why we need to revamp ownership rules. I would propose that no person or corporation could ever own or have interest in more than one news paper, 1 radio station and 1 TV station. Right now, we have 5 or 6 companies that control all media. I would also break up google, farcebook and twatter.

I do not think breaking them up is the answer. This is a free enterprise system and a company is free to operate as it pleases. If a “social Media” platform wishes to silence the users it does not like the opinion of, I think they should be free to do so. As with a brick and mortar “I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone”.

What, for me anyway, does come into play is when all of the ‘competition’ bands together to take one stance. As with the MSM, ALL available regular broadcast channels all put out the same highly biased reporting and call it “the News”. It is far from what it should be: unbiased reporting. Yes, the ‘free press’ is free to put out whatever it wishes. We, as consumers, have the right to either accept/watch it or not.

I do not know the answer to solve it, public education would help. Teaching people to research a bit for themselves. But, the population has grown past that, they are used to being spoon fed whatever comes out of the Boob Tube and call it good. We laugh at the saying “I read it on the internet so it must be true.” People see it on the MSM like CNN and believe what they are reporting is the truth, the unbiased truth and the whole truth.

Oligopoly comes to mind [a state of limited competition, in which a market is shared by a small number of producers or sellers.] . What the MSM and the social platforms need is some decent competition. The costs involved are more than most start-up companies can afford so they would be very difficult markets to get a share in. having the other, established companies band against them would be a huge mountain to climb.

Anyone who thinks that it is possible for America to reverse course.......at any point in the future is "Delusional".

If what is happening this week in America does not scare the crap out of you........does not clearly show you the "powerful" urgent transition in America.

If this does not drive you to accelerating your prepping for "True" survival, you absolutely 100% deserve fully the ramifications.

Me I will continue to........"Harden My Heart".........for the future I believe is inevitable and horrific.

Sadly I know your correct but now for past 60 yr.s Americans have sat back silently on their laurels and surrendered their nation to the loudest voices of invaders and their communist allies.

While that is true...........a non-corrupt government, loyal to America, would have never allowed current conditions to have evolved.

The rapid expansion of the magnitude of corruption in United States Government, is what "we" failed to mitigate.

As long as the government protections are removed. Right now they are enjoying the protections for a 'platform' but they are in fact acting as a 'publisher'.

Let's get that changed, then we can sit back and watch the lawsuits pour in.

Can't say we were not "WARNED"........loud and clear.

"The speech was "a solemn moment in a decidedly unsolemn time", warning a nation "giddy with prosperity, infatuated with youth and glamour, and aiming increasingly for the easy life."

As we peer into society's future, we – you and I, and our government – must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for our own ease and convenience the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.[2]

He was right as was many before and after him.Don't know who he was though?
The last great attempy was in the 1050s.'Attempt ws in the 1950s.

Of course we are doomed. The majority won't fight. Hell, they won't even do a tax strike. Many wont even stop watching professional sports even though they spit in our faces on a daily basis. Trump can slow them down for a few more years by being our lightning rod, but in the end; we fall. To know the future imagine a boot stomping on a human face................forever. At least until the "Return of The King" anyway.

I found this a couple of days ago, a Wall Street Journal opinion piece. I don't know when it was published but it is applicable.

Are you proposing that some government bureaucracy decides whether you can own a newspaper in Wyoming and another one in Idaho? That approach doesn't sound quite ... Constitutional ... to me! And breaking up an internet company because it's the most popular with its customers? I can't help but thinking all that government intervention you're proposing seems kind of ... socialist in nature.

Being free to run a business means being free to say disagreeable things, even if you're Jeff Bezos...

...or Rupert Murdoch.

I kinda agree withthis while at same time also know that some use their power over others to silence them. It like the mafia in a way.
But then the people should be on uard for all the propagander being fed to them.
Monopolys are dangerous to a free society.
Either way it is what it is and much too late to change it now.

I don't think the government should limit news media in any way whatsoever.

Government censorship, whether limiting what an editorial can say or disallowing any paper to get too popular, is about the most un-American thing possible. You should be allowed to read ANYTHING you like and draw your own conclusions; you are a free citizen of the United States, after all!

That having been said, I can't think of a single news outlet that I trust completely. Since I don't have a TV, I rely on bouncing among different online media to try to "read between the lines" given all the innate contradictions of news sources.

I like CNN for its international news, but they are so incredibly biased against Trump (who I don't even like) that I ignore most of their political stuff. Fox, too: excellent local news, but as biased pro-Trump as CNN is anti-Trump. If I want to read about American politics, I go to an online subscription of the Beeb; they're physically (and emotionally) a bit removed from the US and I consider them the least biased.

I also like to look at two sides of a medium when I'm looking at regional news. I used to read/watch al-Ahram (Cairo) and Ha'aretz (Tel Aviv) when reading about the Middle East; I could see both sides and figure out what's really going on (hopefully). Same with Peoples' Daily (Beijing) or Asahi Shimbun (Tokyo), and others. For news of Africa, and the Mideast, I like NPR because of their top-notch reporters like Ofeibia Quist-Arcton (Africa) and Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson (Iran). Bukt they're pretty left-leaning, too; most of their domestic reports are like CNN (but a little more restrained).

Being retired (praise the Goddess) from the aerospace/defense business, I stopped keeping up on military-based news; I ain't gonna study war no more unless I can get a good deal on ammunition; now my go-to news media is the Twin Falls Farm and Garden section of craigslist!

Yes, this. Plus.....what ever happend to slander and libel laws? More people, like Nick Sandman, need to hold those who improperly report stories accountable. I know this has already been discussed on this forum but someone mentioned it would be neat to see Nick use that money to start his own news channel or newspaper. That would be cool.

Back when I took Journalism, we had to use multiple sources to verify facts. The AP was the most trusted source back then. I think it would be much more difficult to find solid news sources now, but it still should be required. Just reporting on the news would be a nice change......no opinions! Right now the only news reporters I like are Sheryl Attkinson, Catherine Herridge, Tucker, and a few Newsmax folks. Clearly some of them have bias, but they do present facts and not just non-sourced chatter like CNN. I do watch some of the non-sourced chatter programs, but I know full well it's just entertainment and not news. Even my own local newspaper shows bias. But they do report on local points of interest that I probably wouldn't hear about otherwise, including the obits.
