That may be the part of the story we are not hearing. There may be strict regulations against carry, concealed or open. Also restrictions on where firearms are permitted, example: gun free zones. People are allowed to own firearms, they are just not allowed to have them anywhere besides their home or vehicle.

    Overregulation created the problem?

They want to take away the guns to cure the problem. From what I gleaned from the article The state of Alabama has removed the right for local areas to pass any new gun laws, curbing their right to sidestep state laws. They want the right to pass their own gun laws. The complaint isn't stolen guns from vehicles as this article wants you to believe, the complaint is killings in the ghettos such as home invasions and drive-bys much like Chicago. Mothers should simply get control of their chilluns.

If you really want people to not leave their guns in their cars then simply pass constitutional carry and run an advertising campaign to carry you weapon with you rather than leave it in the vehicle.

Exactly my thought, who the #$@# leaves their firearm in an UNLOCKED car? Who the $%^& leaves their car unlocked? I used to leave my ancient 1976 CJ5 unlocked, it had NO door locks and a canvas top.
