Just to see how well they work and to play around with, maybe do a little small game hunting setting up a bait station on the pond behind my property, I have ordered an Umarex break barrel pistol (Strike Point model, 9" barrel, .177 cal, 650 fps), and two types of pellets...hollow points and pointed tips, 7.4 gm weight pellets. Also ordered an SAS Manticore el cheapo 150 lb draw weight crossbow with a 4x scope. Figure they may be good for ducks, squirrels, raccoon, rabbits, maybe even a turkey.

We got the oldest a crossbow for her birthday a couple of years ago. She loves it and has stuck (as in they are to deep to get back out) several arrows into the rear wall of the indoor archery range. You could definitely take a deer at 100 yards with a broadhead. It would probably put a field tip right through it.

Oops, she said that range is 75 yards, not 100.

Well, if this thing will take down a full grown deer at 75 yds, it should take down nice, tender, young hogs ( 50 - 75 lbs) at 25 - 30 yds!! Ain't nothing better than a nice young hog on the BBQ, or slow-cooked overnight!! And wild hogs are a real nuisance around here...one reason for the fence around the property. The entire SE U.S. is overrun with the damn things and farmers are forever complaining about losing 20% or more of their crops to the hogs. Fortunately the hogs are mighty fine eating, and MUCH better than "store bought" pig...and you can do anything with them from sausage to BBQ.
