Mo I need the encouragement, don't know why. I've got furniture and sewing projects to work on. There are a few other oddball things I've wanted to make too and I know I can do it.
There's an old lady in Marvel's Black Panther movie that didn't become a star until she was more than 80 yrs old. I don't want to be a star except right here in my own galaxy.
Back to the quilts!
Sometimes we all just need a word of encouragement to get us started.
It's all good.

Right total knee replacement 2 January 2020
Left total knee replacement 5 July 2018.
That pattern looks like Orange Peel, and I have several sizes.
Oh gotchya. Now I have to go look up orange peel. I was thinking if it was your left knee maybe you'd be able to sew sooner. Right knee, it might take a little while...

This is what comes up for orange peel when I search -

Just take one project at a time.
You'll get there.
Right now my main goal is to heal from having my knee replaced.
So while my leg is elevated and iced, I sit in recliner crocheting blankets.
6 more balls of yarn and will have emptied another bin.
When I get tired of crocheting, pick up the knitting needles work on blanket there.
That one might take a while besides casting on, only know one stitch.
Bottom of old fashion smoke stand is embrodiery blocks.
My hands like to stay busy, so my mind, body can rest, heal.
4 more balls of yarn and this bin will be emptied.
Don't have enough yarn to finish blanket completely, so will put it aside till I can find more yarn to finish.
It will 3/4 done when it's put aside.
Another half finished project will go into emptied bin.
Slowly getting pie safe, closet emptied of half finished projects.
Just emptied 1 shelf from closet into emptied bin.

To me it's Cathedral windows with orange peels.
But that works too.
Aaahhh I see what you found. Yes that does look like orange peel.

The pattern I'm doing looks similar to this, but square not round.

How confusing!!!! when they call different quilts by the same name and the same quilt pattern by different names???
Now I'm curious if the one I'm making has a different name :dunno:

A lot of the older patterns were known by different names in different parts of the country. I grew up in Texas and Sunbonnet Sues were called Dutch Dolls in this region. You don't hear them called that much any more, though. The pattern you're making, I knew as Kansas Dugout. It was originally made with a template for the printed pieces and the background was squares sewn onto the long hexagon piece. By the time I started quilting, somebody got smart and figured out an easier way. I couldn't find a tutorial but the Prairie Flower uses Kansas Dugout squares in the corner. Jenny Doan has a video for the Prairie Flower that shows how to make those Kansas Dugout corners. Here is more info on your block.

Both of the other two pictures are called Orange Peel. The two color one is also known as Rob Peter to Pay Paul because you're swapping the fabric out for each block. It's a very old pattern and here is the story behind it.

Thank you. Yes, is much more like KS Dugout but with the center square of QST. Now I will dig a little more (maybe dig a dugout ) I was just going by what it was called in the magazine. Those silly gooses probably knew I would grow up to be a quilter and find that pattern so named it that just to confuse me :D

You can actually purchase the photo fabric at Joann's or Hobby Lobby etc. and run it through your regular printer.

:Thankyou: LadyL, I hope to get around to doing this.been thinking about it every since I saw a movie years ago of two women making a quilt with photos of their loved ones. I think it was Julia Roberts and her mom was passing ,but ofcourse not sure. Anyway when I got idea was from a movie.

Meerkat, I think the movie you're talking about is Stepmom with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. I thought it was a pretty g00d movie.

Ladylocust, did you see the links at the bottom of my post? On my screen it doesn't show the whole message but at the bottom in the center it says click to expand and you can see the rest of it. Don't know why it did that but the links are very pale, too.

I did! Sometimes the internet is such a wonderful resource. The links showed up fine. I had to look at every one :)

CalicoKate I think your right. I thought the family phoyo idea was nice.

Might as well share what I'm working on but I've just started it. I love the vintage stamped quilt kits for cross stitch and I've bought several on Ebay. They were stamped on 100% cotton percale and also have a stamped quilting pattern. I've just started one called Sunflower. I had to order some yellow floss but have almost all the green I need so I've started stitching the stems. The package color looks really washed out because it's surrounded with harvest gold. shudder I did find a couple of pictures of completed quilts that show the colors and quilting designs better. I also have the kits for these quilts.

You have the others also? Wow! That's a special kind of patience. I like the eagle in particular (more my colors.). Please share your progress. I think it's encouraging to see what others are doing. There are so many different ways or projects and that's half of what makes it fun.

Very nice Calico.

I have six or seven of the quilt kits. My plan is to make at least one for each grandchild so that, hopefully, they'll be able to hand them down to their children. Since I have a lot of other things I need to work on, it will take me a long time to finish this one. I'm trying to work on it for at least an hour every night. The instructions tell you how much floss you need of their recommended colors but you can change those to whatever colors you want. I had thought about making red sunflowers on mine but then decided to stay with the yellow because it's so cheerful.

That's why I asked if her pattern had more than one name.
Most older patterns do, depending on what part of the country you're in.
Same thing with embroidery stitches, patterns names, crochet patterns, crochet names, and so on.
I'm as bad with quilt names as I am with people names - sorry
