Church this morning and than went home and got some plants in the ground today. Do you it’s too late to get carrots and onion seeds in the ground in zone 6?
No, its not too late for carrots. I have that going on myself.

Do you start your onions from seed, or do you use starts or slips? There is a thread here about growing onion from seed, starting them inside first. Starting Onion from Seed
There are some interesting videos about the kinds of onions and how much light they need to bulb up. Maybe you are growing green onions?

I never went into peoples private space or yards without permission as a kid. That was like a sacred rule you dont break.
I think I will be installing a lock on the gate ..sucks that I have to do that but ..what choice do I have now?
Many people either didn't get the message or don't care or have respect for others. For some children, only a negative consequence gets their attention, sadly. Jehovah Witnesses used to knock on my door. I could see them and wouldn't answer. They would lean up against the window and look in. I was taught to never do that. It is rude behavior. I told the last pair to put me on their list to not knock on my door. I have my own faith and it isn't following a bible that changes numbers of people going to heaven whenever their membership numbers change.

Wife is weeding. She showed where she wanted me to put the mulch that I'm picking up tomorrow.
Looked for the coon's body I shot yesterday without any luck. Wonder if the neighbor's dog drug it off?
Cleaning brass from the weekend's competition.
Did a perimeter walk around the yards. One small downed branch. Flung it into the nearest woods.

Yeah! We got a functional washing machine now. It's very hillbilly still probably but a lot better than the old one. At least it spins the clothes well. Husband hooked up a new line under the house to come out to the porch next to the kitchen where the washer is. We attached a garden faucet to it, and a hose, which connects to a hose spreader which attaches to the washer hoses. I stuck the garden faucet through a block and attached it to the porch post with a bungy cord :) It works! Now all I have to do is dump a pot of hot water in it but I no longer have to time my hose so it doesn't run over and flood the kitchen ( done that...)

I did 5 large loads of laundry and made pizza.
The bottle baby lambs are now cut off ( they are over 2 months old now) and all I have left to feed is 4 little goat kids.
When I bought my property in 2015 and parked my trailer here while clearing and building. I bought an old, cheap, used washer and drier. I set them on the yard on a pallet behind the many bunks of lumber. I used my generator and a hose to run the washer and drier. Cold water only, which is what I use for all my washing anyways, and the drain water was run towards the trees. I quickly learned that I didn't need the drier, I could hang the clothes on a line and by the time I finished hanging the last item I could go back and start folding the first items that were already dry. Jeans took an extra 5 or 10 minutes some days but in the high desert with a light breeze things dried pretty fast. I did that for two and a half years.

Yesterday was productive, ran a water line from the frost free hydrant about 75 to the tree where I started the lines for the drip/sprinkler systems for the yard/garden. Then cut an existing drip line in half, ended the original where I cut it and ran the new feed for the second half to the new "water tree". GF ordered a few more hose timers so they can water themselves as needed. The water line at the tree has a 4 way splitter so 3 irrigation systems and a garden hose all at one central location. I should have done this years ago.

The neighbors feral/pet cats have been swarming our yard and a couple days ago one was inside the chicken run, fortunately it wasn't attacking......yet. I think it felt outnumbered. Live trap has been set again so they can be relocated. I think I have dealt with almost a hundred cats over the past 3 years, but he keeps bringing home more. I know not all the cats are from his house, we have several "nice" people in the community that brag about caring for the feral cats. I think I may finally post an anonymous letter at the mail boxes warning people that any "stray" cat caught on my "anonymous" property will be removed from the neighborhood. It has been talked about many times on the communities "Nextdoor" page but the problem is getting worse. One time I caught a cat with a collar and a tag and it was returned to the owner with a kind mention that they need to keep it on their own property and I was assured they would, I have not seen it since so they are being responsible.

Last week I scattered fescue grass seed, oats, and barley in the area I have been trying to grow for 3 years now, but with the new sprinkler system the new seeds are starting to sprout today. YAY!!! Which I am extra happy about because I just scattered them on top and didn't rake them in, but last fall I scattered composted horse manure on top of the several layers of old wood chips so there were plenty of nooks and crannies for the seeds to settle in to but even the seeds up on top are sprouting. I think I may finally have a good feed source for our birds this year.

And, I think I will be setting up the ladder and scaffold to tape and mud the drywall over the stairs today. Finally feeling rested and good enough to give that a go, and my GF says she will actually help so that is the main reason I may give it a go. I am tired of doing stuff around here myself.

Have a great day.

Just found the GF is taking her daughter to piano lessons so maybe tomorrow. :dunno:

Laundry today, and set up the soaker hose. Had to make a run for landscape staples — didn’t think about needing them until I laid it out and went “hmmm, that’s not going to stay put.”

Hopefully getting the rest of the netting on the veggie garden so that I can plant today or tomorrow. Wish it was not quite so hot. It’s fine when the sun’s behind the clouds, but I sure do have full sun on that garden.

The rain changes the weed eater and weeding plans. The Princess approved me repairing my favorite chair. It is so old and worn that it wasn't worth the effort of doing a neat job. One screw was broken and another was bent. Replaced both then added a steel corner brace. Nice and solid now.

I am happy

Ben

I too am thwarted by rain, at least at the moment. It’s not supposed to last long, so we’ll see. But I did get the top netting on the veggie beds, so it’s just the front and sides left to do.

I’m really looking forward to redoing them next year — I’m thinking corner bits plus Trex sides and establishing some built-in cover frames so I can do frost covers and deer netting without having to kitbash it every year.

In my rush to get out the door and get my 3 week radiation treatment I failed to empty the kitchen bin...AND
I clean forgot I had 3 rat traps set inside the house.
Now those rat traps hadn't caught a blessed thing for two weeks prior to my emergency and trips to the hospital.
In the commotion thoughts of everything else went out the window.
Well I walked in the door after 3 weeks away and a solid wall of stench hit me like a train.
The bin stench was a given....but the rat traps caught their intended prey. Obviously the second I walked out the door.
What a puke fest.
I cleared out the deceased and the bin and had every window in the house open and every ceiling fan flat to the boards.
Oil burners were lit and perfume and deodorant was sprayed..and a fair amount of time was spent outside gasping for beautiful clean fresh air.
It didn't need much of an excuse to NOT go back inside the house.

But today the house is tolerable.
I got rat baits to put outside.
Everything needs a scrub down.
I have a mountain of washing that needs to be done.
I need to spray my front and back lawn with roundup when the dew dries.
We have had a ton of rain here in the last 3 weeks followed by some hot weather and the forecast is for MORE rain.
Now here in the tropics, with tropical grasses under those conditions the grass can jump up half a foot every 2 days.
It's not enough to mow because the ground is sodden..the grass is too wet.....so when you get a stretch of good weather when you can mow you follow it with a strong dose of roundup.
I'm talking blackberry strength roundup to keep these tropical grasses in check.

So, that's the plan today.

With your treatments, it would be great if someone could come and give you some help.

I hate sitting around.
I hate sitting around and watching other people work.
I HATE sitting around watching other people work on stuff that I should be doing.

Plus I'm stubborn...and bored and staring at all these things that need doing is irritating the heck out of me.

I'll take it easy.

Promise.
Pinky swear.

I hate having other people do things for me. I was raised to take care of everyone else, so it just doesn't feel right for me.

Hope you feel better soon whatever it is going on!! I can relate about hating sitting around. When I had my accident a few years ago I couldn't really walk for a few month at all and then it took me another half year until I could go back to helping with the farm work. It sucked.

So, good thing and bad things...as usual. Life can never just be good....
Good thing husband is getting the tractor fixed
Son passed all his finals and did well
Bad thing our friends down the road ( the only non Amish in our neighborhood beside one old lady) are moving. They have given up on farming and just going back to the city. Wow. I am actually sort of shocked, especially with all that is going on in the world at the moment.

The older you get the harder it is to have friends I think. People move, people die , people get too old to want to go anywhere. It's depressing really. How do you all deal with this? I talked to husband about it. Unless we die in some car accident, at some point there will be only 1 of us here. I hope it is not me :(

I had to find a lock today. I worked all day, get home , mow again for a bit, get inside finish getting ready for tomorrow am, just about ready to head to a shower n I see the little one in my back yard. This time she came through my closed gate.
..sigh...
I greeted her at the back door and gently confronted her promise she made to me yesterday about not going in the back yard. She said she forgot..she Is like 5 so maybe. I made a point to remind her that isnt something she can forget again.
However , instead of a shower, after I sent her on her way I scrambled to find my lock. Luckily I found it . I'm going to have to have a chat with their parents but I'm not sure that'll do any good.
Gah...

Wife and I took a couple days to go see the Ark up in Northern Ky. If you ever have the opportunity I strongly suggest going for it. The boat is unbelivable in size. Probably not comparable to modern aircraft carriers, but huge none the less.
Lot of exhibits as you go thru it. There are 3 decks and they are full of things to see and follow the story from Creation thru the Flood and some on past that.
Got back home tonight and got several jobs to take care of tomorrow

Today was a self proclaimed anti-procrastination day so I took care of several things that have been lingering on my to-do list. Got meals prepped for the rest of the week so I can concentrate on getting books priced for the book sale next week in the afternoons and take care of the garden and critters in the morning/evenings.

That is on my short list of things to see.

Baked oatmeal cups in the oven. Rejuvelac started to make some cheegan (vegan cheese). Dumped some coffee grounds on one of the blueberry plants to keep the acidification of the soil going.

Gotta dig up some dead bushes later, transfer some basil cuttings to soil, and do some PT, and maybe a voice chat with some artist buddies this afternoon while I rip out the latest round of “this quilt‘s directions are terrible.”

How do you make vegan cheese? The Kid is supposedly allergic to milk.

How's Landshark??

Forgotten all about house training, she's going through a phantom pregnancy and when I let her inside I didn't grab her collar quick enough and she did a spaztastic lap of the house that ended up in the bathroom where she fell thought the toilet lid and broke it into a million pieces.
She was unhurt and I missed grabbing the collar AGAIN..and she ended up on my bed where she pee'd with excitement all over the bedding. Thank goodness for plastic backed mattress protectors.
Grabbed the collar and dragged her outside to catch my breath and survey the damage.
