I am so glad I got all my inventory done! The wife keeps a list in the pantry and I have a list hanging above the freezer in the food storage area... Now all I have to do is the in's and out's :)

I got one batch of jerky out, found myself nibbling on it as I was checking the progress. The second batch is in now an should be done when I get up.. I am thawing the meat for batch #3 which should go in tomorrow morning....
I use the pantry daily so won't be keeping a strict log, but I can at any time run through and do a quick glance and know if I need to add it to the list (if it's a store item.) Veggies go down through winter/spring. It will also help me track how much we use per a given period.

My body is sore today, my vision is blurry, and I still feel exhausted. Time to take my daily meds and see if I can wake myself up. I racked out after posting yesterday but mom woke me up to feed her in the middle of the night. Then her dog woke me up even later (I think like 4am) because he was being fussy. He was on the bed growling over nothing so I let him in to her room and went back to bed. Legs and feet have been getting charlie horse (I wonder what the medical term for that is) so I'm not moving too much just yet.

Mo, good luck with picking a dress!

My brain just froze. LOL.
Charlie horses are often from dehydration &/or low potassium. Hope you get to feeling better.
I am enjoying the day, after the inventory I noticed some venison that I sat aside for Jerky.... So last night I cleaned the dehydrator trays.... ;) This morning I was at the grocery store and they had some fruit for a change, but it is all almost over ripe... So I bought a bunch of it and sliced it up, added 5 trays to the dehydrator stack...

I'm not being overly creative with the marinade for the venison, just teriyaki, soy sauce, liquid smoke, some powder garlic & onion, Tabasco, and some worcestershire sauce. I am planing on doing about 5 batches back to back, and I was wondering can you use the same marinade on multiple batches of jerky meat? It seems like a waste to be throwing out this much juice each time.....

FYI I don't use the dehydrator much, last time was a decade ago.... So I am totally flying blind.

I picked up a container for my battery box so I will be installing the vent system and wiring for that today.

The garden is talking to me too......

So enjoying the day does not mean that I will be sleeping... ;)
It's best to just get a bigger vessel or container for marinating. If you do it batch by batch, the first batch will soak up the flavor and acids so your later batches will be bland. You could just mix it all up and put it in ziplocks or a bucket in the fridge and fill the dehydrator as you can. If it marinates a little longer, it won't hurt anything.

I use a visual inventory. Old stuff in front, new in back. Black beans in one section, corn in another.....I use the gorilla shelves, so can stock three cases of the same item on top of each other. We have 2 pantries, and then the very small one in the kitchen.
I have pantry envy!

It's been a process. Over a dozen years or so. Mom has dementia, and usually forgets everything. But last month she wanted to see what was downstairs on the build on we did. She wouldn't let it go, so I took her down. So she saw the newest pantry, and she hasn't forgotten it and won't stop talking about it. Said she didn't know people actually did that. Of all the things she hasn't forgotten. I took her into our local thrift store today, she forgot where she was, and asked if they had milk.

Today, (yesterday-Saturday) I took another trip to Vegas to get the last of what I need out of the house the EX is selling. Helped her move some stuff to her mothers home where she and the kids will be living since her dad died a couple months ago, and helped trash a bunch of stuff and loaded up a bunch of stuff I still wanted.
(she has been super friendly since her dad passed)
I was there about 9 hours and headed back to Utah at about 7 or 7:30pm. But, the stupid new stadium had some event tonight so the freeway was at a crawl and I had to resort to the city streets to avoid the stand still. (Damn Raiders and the pathetic stadium built with VERY minimal parking screws up the freeway and the nearby surface streets for every game, event, and concert at the Allegiant stadium. Finally made it around the ciaos and onto I-15 and headed back to Utah. At the Nevada/Arizona boarder I stopped in Mesquite, Nevada and looked for a place to get something to eat. I learned the preferred Mexican restaurant no longer existed and any normal restaurant I would be interested in closed at 8 pm. 8:00pm!!!!! This is Nevada, a state full of casinos and 24 hour fun and the small boarder town that is supposed to attract people from Arizona and Utah to their casinos and night life has most of the mom&pop restaurants closing at 8pm? Or, simply Out Of Business? I could have gone into one of the 4 hotel/casinos but I wanted a simple in and out restaurant to get a decent meal and I was not going to settle for a drive thru crap sandwach. Soooo, I drove 8 miles north to the small Arizona town(s) of Beaver Dam/Littlefield and stopped at their one and ole bar/restaurant but at 9pm local time they had stopped serving food and my options were beer or a game of pool. Back into the truck and headed home where I made a quesadilla.
I am pondering one more trip to Vegas. 27 years ago I started growing a Josua Tree (yucca tree) from a seed and when I bought my house in 1995 I planted it in the front yard. That Joshua tree is now about 15 or 18 feet tall and doing well. I am OK with the house selling but I want that tree simply because I started it from a seed. It may live, it may die if transplanted, but if I leave it with the house I wont have anything. Usually you can't but a Joshua tree that size but it is probably a $5000.00 tree. I will talk to a friend tomorrow to see if he will help me dig it out and plant it at my new home in Utah. I am within the growing range of the tree so there is no worry there, it is almost fall so it is the ideal time of year to transplant a Joshua. Hoping I can make it happen. Like I said, if I do nothing I don't have a tree, if I move it and it dies I have nothing, if I move it during the ideal transplant season and it lives I have my baby I started from seed 27 years ago. Tomorrow, Sunday, a bit of rest in between all the work I will be doing while resting.

Thanks @Pearl. I'm OK. I was just exhausted. It's part of my chronic fatigue. If I am active (like going to the store out of town) one day I am usually wiped out the next day or even next several days. Having blurred vision when I wake up is not unusual on one of my "bad" days with CFS. It's been this way for years. I've been known to fall asleep on a Friday and not wake up until Sunday morning. Other times even though I am technically awake, my brain is in too much of a fog to function.

@LadyLocust It may be a combination of both. I think I didn't drink enough and I know I'm not getting enough potassium. I keep forgetting to take my vitamins.

I napped and then I got up and actually cooked on the stove.

One of my brother's online friends might be getting him a job. It pays almost as much as his casino job and he can do it from home. If they hire him he will see if they are willing to hire me too.

I just didn't have the space in the fridge, so I thawed the meat a little, cut it up and put it in the juice (about 3 gallons) to marinate in the fridge for about 8 hours. As soon as I loaded the dehydrator, I started thawing the next batch and let it marinate while the first batch was drying...As soon as I emptied the dehydrator I pulled the next batch from the fridge and reloaded it (just a common do loop). After 4 batches, I still have 5 pounds of meat left but that's not a full batch and I don't want any more jerky... so other than clean up I'm done.

My dehydrator is slow so it takes about 12 hours to do a batch, witch worked out fine, 3 hours to thaw, an hour to cut it all up, then 8 hours to marinate, then swap batches... There was even time to sleep without breaking the process... :)

Now I need to move on to my next project... Have to check the list.

Wait, it's Sunday, so I know what I am doing and we are having guests tonight (the wife made a cake for a friend of hers who it turning the big 40).

Youngest son’s primary car was “drown”. Drainage ditch behind their house rose over 6 feet. That leaves their junker to drive 400 miles to a classmates wedding. They accepted the use of my 4 year old car. We drove over to watch the grandkids.

200 miles into their trip they call. They stopped to get gas and now my car will not start. LEO gave them a jump start and they are back on the road with a questionable battery. 300 miles into their trip they call again. Something in the roadway punctured a tire. Son put the spare on and they made it to their hotel.

Son spent the next morning in a tire shop. My car now has four new tires and a new battery. Fortunately the wedding was in the late afternoon.

Grandson (14 yr old) helped me load and unload last of the shop and garage. Them big double stack Craftsman too boxes are heavy. The shop needs sweeping it's totally empty , same with garage.
Wife and daughter packed misc items in house and they loaded and unloaded that.
Got 6 100ld propane tanks loaded and unloaded (approx 200lbs full ea).

Wonder why my backs hurting today.
I'm thinking about just driving my tractor to the farmhouse. It's exactly 5 miles , on all but 1 mile on 4 lane hwy. May be too dangerous .

Today...REST.

Pray God continues to give us strength.

Jim

When it rains it pours!

Been at the farm most of the past week, so now playing catch-up at home (dishes, laundry, etc.) We should have a nice dinner while the three of us are all together tonight, but I haven't figure out yet what that will be.

A trip to get wood for deck railing at the farm. I hope to get as much "pre-done" as possible, so when I take things out to the farm the installation goes faster. I'm doing cable wire for the railing. The back deck is pretty high up (over a basement walkout), so anything I can do ahead of time minimizes risk.

I've been moving dirt like crazy, but now I'm out of dirt and still need more. Technically, there is more from the basement excavation, but getting it on a slope exceeds my skill with a tractor. So I have to figure out where I'm going to pull it from on the property that isn't too far from the build site.

The cistern guy appears to be AWOL.... (sigh)

I aint doin' nuthin today! Past couple days have been busy so I'm going to sit on my butt and stare at the computer screen, I've got several things that need some research. In a typical year, I would have football on all day too, but with the BS Black Anthem thing, I'm gonna pass.....damn it, I miss football....

I totally get that. I used to love football Sundays. And Mondays have been pizza dinner with Monday Night Football since before my husband and I were married. But even before the wokeness crap, I'd started waning on that in recent years. And once that started, it was all over. I don't even think of football anymore. My husband mentioned the opening game of the regular season, and I was surprised to realize I hadn't even known about it. Sadly, football isn't on my radar at all anymore.

I think it's part of getting older. I don't watch near as much sports as I used to. It's not even the politics of it - it just doesn't seem as important as it used to be...

Took my daughter to church. Pastor Rob had a nice sermon about strengthening others. Have to take my daughter to the bigger town to get some paint for her class float in the homecoming parade, and while we're there I think we might hit up A&W for our Sunday lunch. A maybe a root beer float too! 😉
You mean root beer float, maybe lunch😀

More importantly, the salt will be depleted in each subsequent soak. Either adjust the salt each soak, or keep the jerky in the fridge. It won't have as good a shelf life.

Our neighbors had church today. I could hear the opening songs when I was out by our turkey run, and it made me smile. Could hear some of the preaching (in Penn Dutch) out on our deck. Looked like about 30 famiies, maybe 120 people today. Lots of waving as the buggies went by. Husband saw where all the "simmies" hung out, out by the hay bales. Simmies are groups of young boys usually around 13 to 15 yrs old. He spotted a group of 10. Ha. Communion service, and a new minister will be chosed by God today. Looking forward to finding out who it is.
Picked lots of tomatoes and peppers, filled the dehydrator with peppers, some housecleaning, twins got the peonies planted this morning. I seeded more green beans. Made a tres leches cake to bring to mexican food night at my cousins tonight.

For me the downhill slope started when I couldn't get behind so many of the players because so many were criminals. But now it's definitely the politics of it. There's politics in all sports these days, same with sports broadcasting. I can't stomach any of it.

But if it weren't for the politics of it, I'd still be watching. :(

I agree with both of you on professional sports. For me, in the early 90's I was in the police academy starting my career and saw a news report showing NBA basketball players flashing their gang signs on the court after they made a basket. It was at that point I quit watching the NBA. A bit after that an MLB baseball player, I think maybe Alex Rodriguez, signed a contract for something like $300 million to play baseball. In my mind that is just stupid amounts of money for just playing a game so I stopped watching baseball. I was big into hockey at the time and the Detroit Redwings were on top of their game and doing great and for the most part the NHL didn't have any problems with gang members, and the amount of players getting into trouble off the ice was rather small so hockey was my favorite sport to watch, and they allowed fighting and that always makes a game more interesting. With the NFL I got tired of hearing about the injuries and the wear and tear on the players over a long season. 16 games played one per week is a long season? And a play in football may average about 15 or 20 seconds with a 20 second break between plays, and compare that to hockey where they may go 3 to 5 minutes between whistles, they may play 3 or 4 games a week and many times 2 or 3 days in a row while traveling state to state between games and hockey is a pretty rough sport as well. But with the political crap in football that has been building up for many years now I just have no desire to pay them any attention. Actually, my life is so busy I don't have to even think about professional sports beyond glancing at a headline on the internet.
A bunch of over paid primadonnas to play a gaime. Pro athletes should only get paid $1mil a year and then let them earn their extra money by endorsements. If they are good they will get good endorsements, if not they will get 1 mill a year while playing a game.

On the plus side of sports for me both Michigan and Michigan State are 3-0 and looking hopeful, but they don't pay me either way so in the big picture it's just a bit of feel good when they do well.

Sorry, I babbled too long.

I watched every Steelers game this year and aside from back of the helmets saw no politics.

Been to my dad's apartment today.
Ordered him more Levi's size 30-32 x 30.
Ordered him 3 pairs.
I had just ordered him 3 pairs of Levi's 3 months ago size 34 x 30.
He's losing quite a bit weight, but it's to be expected.
Dad says he's been talking to Mom lately.
She misses him and he misses her.
Mom has been gone for 3 years now.
This Friday is Granny's sleepover with oldest grand daughter Estelle.
Then next Saturday after the wedding she will spend the night with Granny to decompress.
I will take her to Aunties house on Sunday.

I've started rotating my fuel supply. Try and do that every fall. I filled 44 gallons today. Got about 30 gallons of gas left. Need to go to COOp and get 15 gallons of deisel. THat'll leave 20 more to rotate. Not likely to use all of it until spring.

Took some cuttings from 5 blueberry bushes and cut them up into about 3" pieces, scrapped the stalks and dipped into root hormone, and potting them in a 50 cube tray to try and root for planting next year. Ended up with 42 cuttings. Got them watered and under a clear plastic tote to keep the humidity up.
