Congrats Patch. I know you are enjoying that grand baby
Jim, you'll be back up and runnin soon.
Get well soon LL. What I had 2 weekends ago came back around on me. Started on a different anti biotic to knock it out before Christmas.

We had our Christmas party at work today. Had over 20 retirees there today. Several of them I had worked with, some older than that.
Wife and I had our new mattress delivered last night. I expected we wouldn't sleep very well the first night on it. Wife said I hardly snored. (Thats a rare thing) So maybe it's exactly what we needed. It is our Christmas present to each other.

I have survived the last several days at the VA getting ready for surgery.
Still have wonderful movement, motion on left knee, no pain according to Physical Therapy.
Have pretty good movement and motion or right knee, according to Physical Therapy.
Right knee just doesn't support me well right now.
All the blood work, x-rays are done.
All the paperwork is done, all the i 's dotted, t's crossed.
Primary care appointments are done for 6 months too.
Now we wait for 2 January 2020.
Went over all the stuff I can and can't bring to the VA.
Will be taking my walker,CPAP machine with me.
Surgeon says minimum 2 days.
My step counts have gone up these last days.
Been walking with 5 pound ankle weights on for not quite 3 weeks.
Since been home got ham and navy beans going in crock pot.
Oven baked 5 pounds of chicken thighs, will get those shredded in the morning in meal portion size for me.
Plan on making chicken enchilada with part of the meat,
Putting it in food saver bags for easy home cooked meals for me.
Some more of the meat will go into homemade ( tart size)chicken pot pies also for freezer meals.
Got 4 chicken thighs in the pressure cooker with vegetables to make home made chicken soup.
Just got to make the homemade noodles for the soup in the morning.
Once cooled will place soup in red 20 ounce or less size Dixie cups to freeze, to make up individual portions of soup for after surgery or whenever.
Strawberry is sleeping on my legs, snoring contently.
Home health will be visiting my home in the future.
As will something called "Meals on Wheels" Primary Care doctor ordered.
Home Physical Therapy will be stopping too.
I'm getting tired, now that I have set down for aminute.
Picked up CSA boxes this morning before leaving for Doctor's appointments.

.

Congratulations Patch on the new grand baby.
Sewing, glad the hubby is doing better.
Nice to hear from you LL
Sorry you and hubby have been ill, Lady Locust.
Everybody get better for Christmas.
Jim, don't overdue on the knee.
I tried on the shorts, I used in the first knee surgery, even cinched up as tight as I could get them.
If I wiggled they fell off. And they were tight before.
So will have to invest in sleep shorts.

Part of the day was a dentist appointment- just a cleaning but they found the first cavity since I was 19, and that’s been along time ago...
Worked on some Christmas gifts for my sisters.

Thanks Mo and BP! Mo, everything you mentioned sounds delicious. Be Leary of meals on wheels. It's essentially institution food. Kind but neither healthy nor flavorful. I had a friend say he didn't understand how they could make so many different things all taste the same :)
@Dadio Those are beautiful.

A few days ago I found a chess set I bought decades ago made from brass...

Seeing that wood you've been working on... Now that would make a beautiful chess set w/board.

Oh yeah. That would be awesome.

I'm just learning chess, as a matter of fact. Perhaps I should get a set that doesn't have half the pieces broken...:D

Well, you just need to feel better, LL. No time to be sick over the holidays!
Seriously, I hope you get better, fast.
Survived the last dentist appt. My pocket book is emptier, but the bridge is in, and all the fillings are done.
Went to our Kroger Store afterwards, and there was a box of canning lids (again) in the clearance section. All wide mouth boxes, 38 of them, so I got them all. Some were marked $1.25 a box and some were $1.50 a box. No difference in the boxes, and the checker said that's what she has to charge. So I bought them. With these and the last haul, I should be set for a while.
I have started the dental stuff too Amish. Started with a riot canal for three trips and he found the root cracked all the way down. Three rounds of antibiotics before found. Pulled it. Next I started on crown. Temp lasted 11 days and broke. Second one broke while putting it on as well as the 3 rd one. Fourth one lasted one day. Got the permanent one and next trip was to build up tooth on other side. I plan on a bridge when I get this paid off. I have no dental insurance and he is giving me a great rate and allowing me to pay it off. I have had my teeth pulled as they broke off up until now. I actually ate a piece of steak tonight for the first time in a long time. Is your bridge removable or permanent?

Except for the first one these are a little pricey... The first one is $59... not to bad for a board. The chess pieces are the pricey part.

Our meals on wheels are cooked at the jail. They also feed the senior citizens center. They had an amazing cook but he got released. Never ate his food but people who did said it was really good.

Lol my set came in a tin with four other games in it and to play you turn the lid upside down and there's a chess/checker board on it. If you turn the whole tin upside down there's Chinese checkers. On the bottom of the inside of the tin there's a game board I don't even have a clue about. My daughter got it for a dollar at a garage sale...:D

TXcatlady...
I started needing 4 fillings, and a possible crown. Turned out the molar was too far gone for the crown, so they pulled it. Two weeks later I went in so they could whittle away the two teeth on either side of the pulled tooth. The temps on those teeth held for 2 weeks. So today I went in for the permanent bridge. My gums are really sore, but other than that it looks great. $2100 for the bridge. Insurance pays for half. Had to pay a couple hundred for the 4 fillings and the one extraction. Hadn't gone to the dentist in a couple years. Mostly because I hate it, and I was too busy working. The dentist recommended an implant, but my mom spent a fortune on them, and some med she was taking effected her gums and they all fell out. Now she has dentures. So I didn't want an implant. I've had a root canal, and 3 rounds of gum surgery. I really really don't like going to the dentist.

I haven't gone to dentist in over 20 years. I just called oral surgeon and had pulled. 6 I think. I really struggle but I have known him since he was a baby and he is great to build me up. I don't have the anxiety or take meds to go see him now. That came from dentist 50 years ago!

Wow 6! I think I'd like to be under for 6. My "dentist hate" comes from the gum surgeries I've had. They would cut open the gum area and filled it with artificial bone. Then stitch and cast it. They'd do half of my mouth at a time. Horrible healing. I just got to the point I didn't want anyone messing with my teeth. The dentist this time was a good one, but I always stress like mad before going.

Hey Spike. Check out chess.com
You can join for free, has a pay side that gives more access. Lots of tactics training, at the outer or other folks.
Let me know if you do and we'll play some.

Finishing up the last of my errands here this morning.
Then I have to make my hubby a cherry pie for our 39th anniversary.
He bought me 10 oz of shiny metal to add to my collection. He knows I don't want jewelry but still like the shiny metal part lol
Making shrimp and fries and slaw for supper since he likes it so much
After saturday we have hubby's eye surgery on the 23rd. Then doctor's appointment the 24th for the doctor to check his eye and then we'll have a nice quiet Christmas
I still have to make a decoration for on the front gate. More than likely do it saturday since it'll be up in the low 40's and not in the teens like today lol
Seems like everyone else here is busy health wise this month. Lots going on. Hope all do well.

Woo Hoo….Happy Anniversary to you both, WVDragonlady!
Am waiting for it to get past the 20's so I can take care of the animals. Busy with housework and the emptying and filling of the dehydrators. Just changed bedsheets, and I have 4 loads of laundry to do and hang.
Having lunch with youngest daughter today, and maybe granddaughter who is in town from Seattle.

Laundry is washed, dried and put away.
Floors have been dusted.
Furniture got a lick and promise dusting.
Table is cleaned off, so I can start sewing in the morning.
Simply too tired tonight.
Crocheting yet another blanket for Christmas.
Got two to put together(individual Granny Squares), should be pretty.
Got one Dresden Plate Granny square one to finish putting together.
I'll try to remember to take pictures.
Happy Anniversary WV Dragonlady.
Resting right now.

@MoBookworm1957 please do share pictures. I've seen the typical granny square afghans, but not a Dresden. You have me curious if it's similar to a Dresden quilting design.
Happy Anniversary @WVDragonlady !

Finally found a sniffer that lets me breathe through my nose so just woke from a 2+ hr. nap. Wow! Can't believe how struggling for air can wear a person out.

Oldest son came home for dinner (without notice of course), so we got to add another plate to the table. Then as soon as his load of laundry was done he disappeared into the night, like a masked stranger on a white horse (if that horse was a Mazda). He was here long enough to tell me he ended his first semester at tech school with one B and the rest A's. Now he is working 40 hours a week through their holiday break.

The ladies of my home are now out delivering Christmas goodies to a variety of people while the youngest son and I are watching some boob tube. It's unusually quite around the house right now. Can't say I dislike it.

My girls and families are coming tomorrow night. Not all will be able to come. About 25. They want an annual sleepover. Lots of fun and fellowships. Kids play well together. We are having meal tomorrow night catered. Saturday I will fix breakfast. I bought a smoked pork butt from the Masons for lunch. Have short day at work tomorrow so hope to make some pies, candied sweet potatoes and get bathrooms cleaned before they arrive. My family is so good to me. They want to provide meal to take pressure off of me and the expense. Allows me to enjoy the fire pit outside and watch babies play on floor when I get cold. Might enjoy some smooth moonshine as I don't have crown. Ready to see them soon.

Saw it for the first time - hubby got home and came in "did you see the dead opossum under the garden bench?" Me "no" so we walk out and sure enough laying half twisted under the bench. Evidently the dog ran right to it when they got home. I fed bunny and told hubby the new roof Dumb and Dumber put on the summer kitchen this summer leaks. We covered a couple things and walked back out to see the thing running by the house. I cracked up, got the flashlight and gave it to hubby. It just ducked around back under a different bench. I've seen so many opossums in my life but had never seen one "play opossum." What a hoot!
It's now blowing gales out there and I'm in here darning socks.

That possum I found in the cat food yesterday played possum for a few minutes... They are good at acting dead...

One major accomplishment today. I took dad to see a pain specialist in the big town. He’s going to give dad a spinal block on the 30th. He found 3 places he wants to inject what ever it is they inject. 1) right side of dad’s spine 2) left side of dad’s spine but a 2 vertebra lower and the 3rd shot in his hip.

I don’t know what this means other than it should relieve dad of the agony he’s been in since early November. 3 shots confused me, I thought they’d give him one shot, at least that was what my niece said but she’s a hypochondriac, what does she know?

He switched dad’s meds also, have to pick those up tomorrow. Dad’s taken so many nsaids his stomach is giving him fits, almost no appetite.

Mom continues to improve from her knee replacement. She’s taken over making their breakfast and lunch (family still brings over food every few days). She warms up their supper. She can gather up their laundry and get it to their back door now. I still do their laundry, pick up prescriptions, dispense meds. My niece helps by taking mom to her appointments and does their shopping.

The hardest part… dad is a night owl like me, mom is up at the crack of dawn, when they both had bad days, I got no sleep. The worst is over with mom… maybe this block thing will get dad out of the woods too.

Took the kid to our primary care, cardiologist and the eye Dr. None are happy.

The kids diastolic pressure is still to low(45) and her heart rate is still to high, was 188 last night while in bed. Then the eye Dr said she had some hemmorage spots in the picture of her eye and asked if she was diabetic. He was surprised when I told him that we've had 2 endocrinologist tell us no, she's not and they don't know why her blood sugar drops.

Our primary is upset because her oxygen readings for the past 3 weeks have been erratic. She keeps dropping down to the low 80's for a few minutes before jumping back up.
