We wouldn't want students to feel any pressure to learn in school.

I am sure they will also start calling detention "post-school enhanced learning".

I remember my first day of school. Dad took me to school told the teacher any problems. Give me a call. Told me and I quote " If you miss anything in school today it had better be lunch!" Also said a C on your report card is just like an F!

Don't even know what to say.... How are colleges supposed to evaluate kids that graduate from there when the kid says "My GPA was a Meeting".

That was my first though too. My second thought was that most colleges probably won't care as long as they pass the SAT/ACT and they either qualify for student loans or their check clears.

Will the public school loose its accreditation with a grading system like that?

My oldest graduated from a private school that closed without notice the day after her graduation. We had her get her GED just in case we couldn't get her paperwork from the school and NMSU admissions said that wasn't necessary. Her SAT scores were sufficient.

My thought was SAT/ACT scores. From my experience, grades are not everything. They can be very deceptive.

I am not defending this change at all, but just some food for thought. I know teachers who have given inaccurate grades. They lied because they didn't want certain students to be labeled and to be seen for what they were capable of or not. In one instance that I was very aware of, a girl had a low, but functioning IQ. Her IQ was maybe 72, while 90 is considered on the low end of being able to do okay in school. Normal IQ range is 90 to 110. Teacher left after the school year and moved out of state. Child could not do near what she had been said to be able to do. Parents were always concerned and teacher blew them off repeatedly.

I had a classmate growing up who was severely dyslexic. He was already held back in kindergarten, and repeated when he ended up in my class. I only learned at my last class reunion that several girls in our class helped him, especially in h.s. Small h.s. made it easy for people to get copies of the tests before the test. Teachers ran their mimeograph copies of tests after school and then went home. Girls had committees and other things going on long after teachers were gone. They would go into the outer office and retrieve the originals from the trash, work together to come up with the answers and give Bob the answers before the test. You know that they also knew the answers before the test. Since Bob couldn't read well, they would do his book reports for him as well, and then he would copy them in his own handwriting. Today, Bob would have been a special ed student. He wasn't when we were growing up. In many places, he would never have graduated. My classmates worked together to make sure he did. While I have not been a cheater, because I didn't need to be, I thought it was interesting that this happened to help someone out who might not have made it otherwise. Did Bob go to college? No, he became a mechanic for the railroad. He has now retired.

Without that high school diploma he probably would have not been given that chance.

Truth! While I do not advocate cheating, this just made me feel proud that people cared enough to give him help. Yes, it was cheating.

Is it cheating? Was he able to learn or did he just copy things? Could he have learned without the help? He got the help to understand the content,if that's cheating then I am guilty too.

I think Bob could learn, he just couldn't read and therefore write. I know people who think that when someone has dyslexia, they are not smart. Dyslexics are actually above average IQ, they just have difficulty with reading. It is not about words and letters being upside down and mixed up. It is about processing sounds. Bob, like a cousin of mine, does not always pronounce words correctly. It is the sounds he hears or doesn't hear that are the problem. Part of reading involves stringing sounds together correctly.

Some dyslexics, I read just fine but I get words mixed up sometimes. I pronounce them wrong or say them in the wrong order.
