... If you're thinking that a genset is key to maintaining a water supply, be sure to get one that will output 240 volts AC in addition to regular 120 v household current; water pumps usually always run off of 240 v...

For my last pair, I went to Lenscrafters for the optometrist part (eye evaluation and refraction). Normally I go to Kaiser, my medical insurance, because it is free (other than the minimal copay). But I decided to give Lenscrafters a shot since it doesn't cost much to pay out of pocket. They have been making my glasses forever, but this was the first time I tried them for the refraction.

I must say, I was impressed. They did a very thorough and detailed job. I'd say, better than my previous optometrists. I think it would still be better to go see an ophthalmologist if you have significant eye problems, but for just routine eyeglasses prescription updates, and optometrist is just fine.

Note: I am probably rating the individual optometrist I saw at Lenscrafters, and not Lenscrafters as a whole. I imagine they are at least reasonable across the board, but I was quite happy with the individual optometrist I saw. She did an excellent job. To be honest, I was skeptical when my wife suggested I try them, but I ended up being a bit surprised and very impressed.

The Lenscrafters office was wide open for appointments. Same day as I called.
Closest one of those is about 1&1/2 hours away one way. No thanks. I'll deal with whats available here

My guess is that, if Trump wins in the Electoral College, the Democrats won't do much; but if Trump wins and the Democrats keep the House (which they almost certainly will) and gain the Senate (which they probably won't), the next four years will be just as interesting as the past four.

If Trump loses the EC vote, several things can happen, mostly bad:
  • The day after the election is settled, Trump will already be smelling the DA of the Southern Manhattan District coming after him January 20th, so he resigns the presidency, the Constitution makes Mike Pence President, and Mike pardons Trump just like Jerry Ford did for Dick Nixon.
  • Trump screams foul/fake news and refuses to concede, hoping the SCOTUS will stick its oar in again, which it probably won't, and maybe the US Marshals will escort him out of the White House after Biden's inauguration.
  • Trump will grumble, but he will try and play nice and go on his way without causing too much of a ruckus
  • Trump will accept the election results but figure that he still has more than two months to actually be a president, he may try to "sement his place in history" by doing some really bizarre things both domestically and/or internationally via presidential decree, like changing the name of South Dakota to South Trump or trying to annex Greenland.
I had to laugh, mostly at your last 'can happen'. South Trump has a ring to it, eh? What I'm wondering though is what the deranged portion of the losing side - whichever one that is - will do.

TDS is real... We put up with 8 years of someone doing all they could to destroy this country. From the moment the current president was elected the other side has done nothing but whine, cry, and destroy cities. I see no good outcome no matter who wins. We will be doing as we have for years. Keeping food and other essentials and being cautious.

To be honest, I expect there to be some protests right after the election. But I think the protests will die down quickly as most protesters like to do it with no shirt, and it will be cooler by then. I do expect come next spring for everything to get hot again.

I did listen in on a Union call the other day, man those people are really against the DON. I have to be very careful around those types as they are very dangerious.....

Its so bad here now record numbers of Mexican going back home,

https://www.numbersusa.com/content/...illegal-immigrants-returning-mexico-reco.html

The Mexican Consulate's office in Dallas is seeing increasing numbers of Mexican nationals requesting paperwork to go home for good, especially parents who want to know what documentation they'll need to enroll their children in Mexican schools.

"Those numbers have increased percentage-wise tremendously," said Enrique Hubbard, the Mexican consul general in Dallas. "In fact, it's almost 100 percent more this year than it was the previous two years...."

Duncan, you lay out options for Trump winning EC, or losing EC. There are other possibilities, though. Will there even be a clear winner???
  • Will mail-in balloting allow an election night or next day determination of president? Probably not.
  • How long will it take for there to be a settled/agreed set of Electors?
  • Due to mail-in ballots being excluded by the hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) as was seen in the primaries, will there be cries foul of voter suppression, and the generation of competing sets of electors from one or more states?
  • Will Congress have to decide which sets of electors to honor? Will the party currently controlling the House be more likely to pick D electors vs. R electors? Or, will the Congressional delegates from each state pick the electors from their state (as probably should be the case)? If the populace feels like the wrong set of electors was chosen, and the election stolen from them, what then?
  • What will be happening in the country while Congress and the Supreme Court decide these issues?
You mention Trump resigning and Pence pardoning him. I'm not sure that has to happen. I'm not aware of any reason the president can't just pardon himself. I would expect Trump will leave office with a back pocket pardon with his own signature on it. He doesn't seem like the resigning type.
Tacitus, note my post immediately above; it has to deal with the election itself. As you so correctly put it, whether the election settles things (pre- or even post-certification) is another thing entirely! I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess as to the outcome of that pile of doo-doo; I just hope that none of the stuff happens, regardless of who wins in November.

One comment: Whether Trump can pardon himself for his actions as President is arguable, not being a lawyer (even I have my standards), I wouldn't care to comment. But what might concern Trump would be for his actions as a private citizen (pre- Nov 2016), such as the DA of the Southern District of New York, who is going after him for tax fraud.

llegal immigrants are returning home to Mexico in numbers not seen for decades...

That is too funny. They are "undocumented" (no paperwork) when sneaking into the US, but their own government requires them to have paperwork to go back home. I guess illegal border hopping into the US is fine, but border hopping into Mexico, where they are actual citizens, is not. You just can't make this stuff up. Maybe we can set up some trebuchets to assist them in getting over the wall if their own country won't give them the paperwork to reenter.

Understood. If they really want to get him, they will pursue him on state crimes, though. He can't give himself a state law pardon. However, if he has a federal pardon (granted by himself, or by Pence), it could cover everything he's done before he leaves office, which is to say it could include everything he did as a private citizen even prior to taking office. If he has a proper pardon, then the DA for the SDNY would have no power or authority to prosecute him for federal tax fraud. Only a state prosecutor could pursue him for state tax fraud.

Of course, if they do pursue him like that, then I have to assume that state prosecutors will be preparing cases against Biden if he wins...then again, it would probably have to be a non-Delaware prosecution, as I assume he has that state locked down pretty well.

Absolutely! I have a little Honda e2000 which is quiet as a church-mouse, but is hideously expensive and still makes enough noise so that someone within 30 yards away can hear it. I bought it for my camper when I go dry camping, and now it's in the garage where I start it up and run it for five or ten minutes every three months, and have tested it with my chest freezer and for charging my electronics.

Unless you have to have a freezer (for medications, etc.) I'm not sure a genset -- even a little one -- is cost-effective.

Regarding the pardons, I wonder if Obama pardoned all of his ilk before he left office? Some folks think the last 4 years would be enough to put many of them back in the trouble zone of prosecution. Personally, I'd like to see an end to pardons b/c they just spit into the face of our justice system and certainly entice corruption. Even though I'd like to think a POTUS wouldn't be corrupt (after the last admin) I know that's not the case. If we ever get to see what was on the Biden or Weiner laptop, I think many Americans will stand together in solidarity. I wonder if Treason is a pardonable offense?

I don't think I'll see a lot of discord in my area, but I still want to be prepared for whatever may happen. If nothing else, I wouldn't be surprised to see more shortages at the grocery store. I'm already seeing the ramping up by MSM of Covid, so I am thinking the lockdowns could be coming again. The freezers are full, fuel tanks topped off, paper products stacked, and am prepared to stay home for months if need be. The weather is getting more nasty, so I hope that would work in my favor. Nobody likes to stake out residences when it's cold and windy outside. Additionally, I've already planned for old man winter, so hopefully those preparations for cold weather and power outages will be beneficial to me no matter what happens.

I am hoping for the red wave to sweep our country and for the Covid vaccine and cure to hit the market in short order. If it is a red wave, the D's really have nothing more they can do, except scream and cry. Boo hoo! I think a red wave would be the easiest outcome to deal with. Judging by the Biden rallies vs. the Trump rallies, a red wave seems likely to me. I'm hoping the voter fraud has been mitigated and we can get on with it after Nov 3rd. I want a normal Merry Christmas!:flyingaway::swingstocking::snowwindow::candycane::merrychristmassanta:

I doubt it would matter if we saw what was on the laptops. The liberals would ignore it, or would say it's ok. The media would bury it. In the end it wouldn't matter at all. If Joe and Hunter came on live national TV and burned little old ladies' feet with hot irons, liberals would say those little old ladies' deserved it...

I'm prepped as well as I have been for years now, but I did add a few extra can goods a couple of weeks ago. I have a new pantry shelving unit so I filled it up.

My major concern is my cataract surgery is scheduled for the 11th. I am worried that actions of the cabal will interfere with this. I do mean will, not might. I think they (far left) have all sorts of mischief planned.

I'd guess the sooner you have cataract surgery would be better than waiting until later. I'm guessing things will get worst in the future, not better.

A pardon is an absolute power. It is meant to correct injustice, which it does. Unfortunately, power is often abused.

I am anticipating that no matter who wins, we are in for a societal upheaval. I am anticipating for our current POTUS to win, but there are people in the world who can do things we haven't even realized.
Daughter is listening to me about getting prepared and being prepared, and not making fun of me, as she has in the past. Busy and social girl often runs on empty in many ways. I'm trying to anticipate what I can prompt her in doing to be ready for what may be coming. She has a few vehicles and I suggested to her to make sure her gas tanks are full, and that they all have locking gas caps. Even locking gas caps are not 100%. A few years ago, there were people draining gas tanks by punching holes in them. Also, I have gas cans that I am going to get filled up. I should have already done this, but here we are.

Glad your girl is listening to you. I have 3 that don't...one in Seattle is doing better at it, but she's in Seattle. Ha. The tucson and Albuquerque girls live day to day. Son in Albuquerque can survive with very limited resources, and I usually don't worry about him at all. He can kill, skin, and cook about anything. And grow anything. Still. They are our kids. I convinced husband that I would like to do one more Sams run and one more Aldi run before the election for fresh stuff. I don't have a lot of fridge space, but I do have ice boxes that can be in the garage, and around here, that is the same as a fridge.

Re those settled Mexican immigrant families who are working on returning to Mexico . . . an idle speculation:
Educated Mexicans know their country's history includes multiple periods of violent social unrest, with armies and militias marching to battle. Pancho Villa wasn't just a bandit, y'know. Wondering if those immigrants are that worried about it happening here.

Wondering if their concern is justified.

Their wives might be worried if they can't find stuff at the grocery store
There is another culture that lives largely on what we stock for preparedness: rice, beans, corn. But we live in a world where people buy minimally of what they need. Every family could have at least one 5 gallon bucket of each of those, and more as back up, but no, because it is in the way and they can go to the store for today's food.

Many years ago, I was reading a thread somewhere about oil and the limited shelf life. One commenter said he would keep an envelope with money by his door, and he would run to the grocery store at the last minute when SHTF. Yeah, no! I would not be surprised that there are some empty shelves in stores now and more coming. Got beans and rice NOW?

The wife's last trip to Costco the, unmasked, woman behind her in line got up in her face and remarked that she should come to Costco more often so she didn't have to buy so much. Wife told her to back off.

I expect that woman has little to fall back on.

Weedy, that woman talks about them having plenty of X or Y and all the boxes have been moved to the front of the shelf. Bare shelves and product one or two items deep is not good. How long has it been like this that she thinks things are okay. Even the things, like oatmeal, where there was an adequate amount have bare spots you could drive a truck through.

A pardon is an absolute power. It is meant to correct injustice, which it does. Unfortunately, power is often abused.
I understand the whole reason for pardons, but I think there has to be some restrictions put on it. I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think what we have right now is working. I'm thinking that's why the punnishment for treason is death. If those rotten apples aren't gotten rid of, they will find their way back to infest with the election of a 'friendly to thier cause' official. I think perhaps pardons need to be made more public and with some explanations and evidence as to why the person is pardoned. Those people were put away by a jury, so there was a good reason they were jailed. I also think there needs to be a limit on how many people can be pardoned by one governor or president.

I might make one last trip to the grocery store on Monday just to shore up some fresh veges and fruits. I'll also fill up the tank in the car. After voting, we'll likely pick up something to eat as a treat, and then come home and watch things play out on TV. I don't plan on going anywhere the rest of the week.....just to be on the safe side. Although, I don't think things will get all that ugly.

I doubt there will be any unrest in Idaho post-election; our one Republican Senator running and all the Republican Representatives will be re-elected handily, and I'm sure that Trump will sweep Montana, Wyoming and Idaho for the presidential race. I don't think there will be a "blue wave" nationally, although I do believe that Biden will be elected, the Democrats will maintain control of the House and the Senate might flip (although I doubt it).

The only problem I can see here will be -- assuming Biden wins -- if enough Trump supporters will start claiming fraud. But that should be more of a problem in the battleground states, especially if North Carolina and/or Florida end up in the Democratic column, which is doubtful. Another concern I hear now and then (although I don't think it's likely) would be that Trump -- if he loses -- will refuse to concede and that, mes enfants, will be the biggest Constitutional crisis in the history of the Republic.

Hopefully, though, things will sort themselves out and the nation will slowly return to normal.

Okay perfect. I actually should buy more....
I've never taken any but out daughter has taken it,but we worm our hens with it.So I guess its safe. I ask daughter why she said they eat lots of raw veggues and even raw fish sushi.

I give DE to my chickens, use in my garden and drink in my smoothie. If you deal with animals it is good to take DE for two weeks straight, it will help get rid of parasites. It does help with bp and supposedly gray hair. But dont stay on it for long periods. Give yourself a rest every how and then.

the more I read, the more I think oh no, we will starve to death!! Hubby told me to slow down, lol.

Did stop at the Walmart in the big town after husband's doc appt. Needed more small propane cannister for a propane oven I have, granddaughter needed a few more long sleeved dresses. Picked up a few grocery items. They were cleared out of mac and cheese, spaghettio type stuff, hardly any broths left, and slim on canned veg. Luckily I don't need any of that.

@Caribou I don't think we'll have to worry about Trump leaving. He'll uses the legal system to exhaust every possibility that he might have won, but if Joe really gets more delegates Trump will go. He'll probably throw a hissy fit on the way out too, but oh well...

Edit: reply fail. Supposed to be replied to Duncan...

I'll throw a little gas on this fire. If the election is disputed and Fancy Nancy is in the driver’s seat and they are unable to pass any kind of stimulus package before February, then a lot of people are going to be downstream from bad.

And, If during that coming sh:) storm, if the economy takes a hard turn for the worst and we see hyperinflation, then all heck will break lose.

I remember a professor I had who was in Germany between the wars, people would work half a day, take their pay and buy food and work the rest of the day. Money was losing it's value so fast that they just started printing 0's on old bills... But in this case people arn't even working....

Now that is the kind of stuff that makes HARD PREPS look really good...
