May have been, but I am not a 'bean specialist' :rolleyes:.
All of it that I see here is made with red kidney-beans.
Speaking of, we could probably take a lesson from people that have always eaten cheap, the Mexicans.
I think every one of their dishes has beans in it.
 
I think about all this talk about what people will do and I have to think about the bag and dash crimes that have gone un-prosecuted.... This has told people if you put on a mask and a hoodie you can go into a store and take what you want and walk out, no one is going to do anything but follow you with a camera phone. So when the stuff starts happening you can expect to see people filling their shopping carts like a game show contestant and then pushing it out the door going for all they're worth... eventually grocery stores will have to figure out how they are going to stay in business... I know we've seen it a little but imagine a school bus full of folks doing their shopping in one store at one time and then on a given signal they all rush the door with carts full of high priced meats and things.....

Before Covid, I heard about kids in Baltimore that would visit the "nice" stores at the Inner Harbor near closing time and then just as the last metro train was about to leave they make a mad dash for the exit with their shopping bags to catch the last train out of the area. Mark my words we ain't seen nothing yet...

my understanding is the origin is from Louisiana, It is a Monday meal made from the weekend leftovers
Original bean is actually what ever bean or pea that was eaten, mixed with rice and what ever vegetable is growing in the garden meat was what ever was handy mostly pork bone

basically poor folk food as is all southern soul food dishes

Companies that supply food will be able to write any price they want on the ticket followed by: "Take it or leave it! :mad:".
It will make the price of gas look like bubblegum.

You maybe right. . .I don't know. I have seen other countries like Venezuela for example, being good and standing in lines waiting for their rations too. But I have also seen major crime happening in that country too. People are being killed just to get what they have. Women are selling themselves into prostitution just to get food for their families. When people get hungry and their babies are crying, people have been known to do many things that they normally would never even think about doing. We will see just how bad our country gets. Gas pumps are already being converted in Washington state for over $10 a gallon. I guess if you live in CA you will be alright going to the grocery store and just walking out with a basket load as long as it is under, what was it? $999.99? That kind of crap doesn't happen here in Texas, except maybe Austin will soon adopt that law? Nothing Austin does surprises me anymore.

Sorry Bro, Did not mean to touch a nerve, I am just stating facts. and that is any animal that is in captivity or has been domesticated is going to get tossed in a pot around the 2nd week of a no food situation. The zombies that have not saved anything and have mocked preppers for storing food will eat everything they can steal including Fido

Well Ben,
even with shortages, the least expensive food, (calories for the money) is still rice.
If you have to survive on rice only, its possible for a while.
Defiencies in fats and protein and vitamins can take a while to show up especially if the individual is overweight to begin with (how many people that live off EBT cars are fat, it iwll take a long time for them to starve as long as they get something?)

Vitamins... well weeds grow just about anywhere and they ARE a legit source of ruffage and Vitamins.

So IMHO SHTF rice will be an even bigger commodity than it is now.

Went to a Costco outside Milwaukee today. It was loaded with everything.
More sugar than I’ve ever seen and all different types.
Vanilla which I haven’t seen in forever so I bought a jar for $11.
I went up and down each aisle looking for gaps. There weren’t any. Flours of every type.
Bakery aisle was jammed with goods.
The cold foods were all there also. I looked for the regular things and found no shortages

Youwould think nothing was going on if you only shopped at a WI Costco.

So, because we live in central Wisconsin we have farm fresh food all over the place. However it is all the big farmers who produce masses of potatoes and corn. Second only to Idaho in potato production.
Without fertilizer they will be nowhere and without “round up” it’ll be even worse. However they have the tools to grow other food so I’m glad we are located where we are for the future times.
 
@Solar Geek I am glad you have a good supply of stuff at your local store. I know Costco is a national company but I suspect some food products are sourced regionally and that is why things vary store to store. Our Costco didn't have any empty spaces but spots where we used to get some stuff are now filled with other products. The GF is working this weekend and will be coming home from Las Vegas on Monday. I may suggest that she check the Sam's Club on her way out of town to see if she can pick up some things we need, although she was there about 6 weeks ago and they had even less of the things we need than our Costco. But, supply chains change often so maybe they got some good stuff in now.
 
Thanks to all that recommended products an or companies that will thrive in rough times and propose a good investment in the rimes to come.

We have compiled a list and researched candidates. We will review our findings with our money guy on Wednesday.

I did a lot of work for Tyson 'back in the day'.
They have been rock-solid for decades (but not a great place to work unless you are hispanic:confused:).

Well, the other thing is, you should probably look at the number of trucks coming in between 2:am and 7:am. They only bring birds in when it is cool.
Trust me, everything that comes in, goes out.

I'm not there between 2 and 7am, but I drive by that corner often because mom lives right near there. Those truck trailers haven't moved.
I'm not saying that Tyson isn't profitable, who cares? Maybe they are or not. This is just something I've noticed. AND they used to have a sign saying how many days since they've had an accident. No more sign.

The other thing is, you could have poured all of your hard-earned money in, along with all the 'wokeies', into Peloton... Glad you got it at only $126?:)

In reality, governments around the world will do what all governments do when inflation makes average people hungry and angry..........they will print more money, engage in short-term, feel good handouts and turn inflation into hyper-inflation.

Survivalists should be students of history - almost all the threats that average people think we are crazy for contemplating, have happened before.
