A guy in my brigade in Vietnam lives in Bonner Springs.
I see him every year at our reunions.

Yesterday we visited Fort Clinch, the northernmost point on the east coast of Florida.
Built in the 1850’s to protect the Port of Fernandina from seaborne attack, it served in the Civil War, Spanish American War, and WW2
 
Daughter asked me to make T-shirts for her Pre-Vet club at college, no problem. Then said each shirt needs 4 prints, one on each sleeve, a print of a stethoscope hanging around the neck which is actually 2 prints with one on the left side and one on the right side of the neck, and a large 3 color print on the back. Bunch of work but OK. I initially said $20 each if it is a simple print job, but gave an awesome price of $30 each due to the multiple prints. They came back with "our club doesn't have much money can you do them for the $20?" UGH. Tomorrow I get to call my accountant to see if it would be better for me to just donate the shirts and take it as a tax deduction at full price for the shirts. It's only 13 shirts but it's a ton of work. I hate being a nice guy. I need to call the accountant anyways to talk about running this as a business anyways. We shall see.
Cold weather found us yesterday. Very windy and rainy last night with mixed snow but no accumulation yet. More snow this morning and off an on now but so far the ground is still to warm for anything to stick. I am glad I remembered to winterize the drip irrigation yesterday, I saved 8 battery powered hose timers from freezing overnight.
 
Ate brunch, did a pile of dishes, consolidated all trash for tomorrow's pickup (bin already on street), showered, then decided to "lie down for a moment..." :rolleyes:

And BAM!!! I was OUT, lol... but I woke an hour later, shared quality time with the cats, and I've been puttering around ever since, may watch a movie here in a bit. :)

I was gonna do a load of laundry, but it's not absolutely necessary, so I'll probably wait until tomorrow to deal with it. I'll get an extra night's use out of the bedsheets that way, lol. 😴
 
Found out last week my favorite neighbors didn't have any firewood for this winter. At their age (80's) I'm not sure if it was because of lac of funds or because they just weren't up to doing it. He's always done his own wood up until now. So I cut and loaded as near to two cords on my Deuce is I could and took and delivered it today. Now I'll borrow the other neighbors splitter and split and stack it one day this week. I just wish I had known sooner they didn't have any for this winter or I'd have done this months ago so it would have time to dry and season. Wet wood is better than no wood if all other heat sources are out. But I'll cross stack it to let lots of air movement through to help it dry faster. I'm guessing I had about 1.75 cords on the truck.

Woke up not feeling well. AC was on heat mode and it was too hot. I was sweating and the cats were climbing on me. I felt nauseous. Cats were super cuddly and helped me feel better by rubbing their faces on my face and purring for me. Got up and fed the cows (I'd had the feed bag in the back of the truck), fed the kitties, cleaned up cat crap, cleaned up trash, washed dishes, picked up the spilled rice, picked up the bin that fell over and put everything back in it, cooked dinner, played a little Elder Scrolls Online, and am currently sitting here with my oldest cat on my lap. He saw me typing and wanted attention. He is such a sweet kitty. Doesn't really meow- does more of a chitter. He looked sort of like an Ewok as a kitten.

Sis still visiting, but spending the night with mom tonight. Got more tomatoes chopped for the dehydrators, tons of laundry done, rabbit cages cleaned, and dinner at my favorite cousins. Windstorms all day today, Took alot of plastic off the greenhouse. My favorite cousin's son in law said he'd be by late in the week to help me fix it. He's tall.

Since the greenhouse is in operation I am doing the work in sections. Trying to fit the space blanket in one piece would have been a nightmare so two 2' sections at a time is challenge enough.

Then fitted the rigged doom insulation to lay on top of the drywall panels.

I blew out my outside water lines, drained all the hoses and put them away. Turned off the gas to my lawn mowers and ran them until the ran out of gas, took the batteries out of them and set them in the shop on trickle chargers.
I have been wondering why there was always a wet place in the pasture. I figured it out today. I have a leaky shut off valve and a broken pipe. Something to fix next spring.
I'm about 99% ready for the cold. I'm usually not at this point till sometime in mid November.
For some strange reason we still have irrigation water on so my pasture sprinklers have to wait till they turn it off.
OK, I could walk across the pasture and turn the valve off but I think I'm suffering from Covid lethargy. 😄

Wait til I show Hubby that truck. That's what they used to go get wood with when he was growing up. He's told stories of it many times.
 
0649, been at work almost 3 hours now. The old switches are out of the track and the dozers are doing the grade work so I've got a few minutes to take a break. I'll be working with the suck truck in a few minutes. It's like a giant vacuum cleaner that sucks rock and dirt out of the tracks in spots where the dozers can't get to it.

After that we'll be getting the new switches put in place and buttoning everything up. I'm guessing we'll be done around 5pm so it'll be about a 13 hour day and it's all overtime because this is supposed to be my day off. It's a little easier to take when you're getting paid close to $600 for a days work...
 
Deciding if I'm going to work today! Got the dog and cats fed, will feed the donkey at daylight. Hopefully some pretty good rain on the way. The couple I clean for on Mondays has company coming later in the week so I may postpone them a few days. The wife was hinting around yesterday to possibly hold off until mid week after the rain! So if I stay home I'm doing laundry and some much needed cleaning right here!!

No, I'm not supposed to take any pics of the process. It kind of looks like a garbage truck with a swinging boom on one side. There's an 8 inch vacuum tube on the boom with a long handle on the end for a guy to maneuver the end of the tube into tight spots. And there's a seat on the back with controls for the operator to run the vacuum and he can move the truck forward and back from there.
 
My shoulder felt better yesterday so I cleaned the house and baked a pumpkin roll. Plus laundry. Now it hurts again a little. I just can't NOT do anything, I really hate that
Then I ate 2 pieces of cake and my stomach was upset, serves me right....probably didn't agree with the antibiotics.
Picked up a load of straw Saturday ( 80 bales) but I just came along for the ride. Husband and son put it up in the barn when we got back. We use it for the babies in spring.

Rice paddy daddy: we have camped several times at Fort Clinch, it's a nice campground. Did you camp or just visit the Fort? I saw the photo before I read your post and thought we've been there but forgot where it was lol.

Sounds like the truck that used to vacuum up the autumn leaves put out to the curbs around here.


ETA: looked at the pics on the website Spike linked to. What the borough uses isn't round like that and the vac tube comes out of the side. No sitting on the back--walking alongside.
 
Laundry, since it's raining outside and in the low 40s... :rolleyes:

Kittens are playing indoors, while Crackhead is living up to his name by zooming around the yard in the rain, lol... :oops:

Tiger is the smart one this morning: he ate breakfast, looked outside, and walked to his favorite quilt-padded nook for a nap, lol. He's no dummy... ;)

Lunchtime. Since this is a special project and we're working on our scheduled days off, per union regs they either have to feed us or pay us extra money. Today they brought us smashburgers from The Flying Elbow grill. It's pretty good. Yesterday we got chopped brisket sandwiches from a local BBQ joint. Usually they just get pizza so I'm actually impressed.

It started raining 45 minutes ago so we're eating in the truck. We just got word that our next project will be in Polo, Missouri. It's pretty country down there, but the locals can be...interesting. I think there's more people on meth than not...
