Sort of on the lines of the most searched for Thanksgiving recipes...

Yesterday we got an advertisement in the mail for catered Thanksgiving dinner. It includes a precooked turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, green bean casserole, cranberries, rolls, pumpkin pie, etc. delivered to your house either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. They had 4 different size options. You can pay for the heat and eat version with comes in containers that can go straight in the oven or microwave (Wed) or the version that is warm and ready to eat (Thurs). Prices were pretty high and they claimed to have over a dozen catering vans prepped and ready to go. Apparently every year they sell out and the subsequent year they increase the number of meals and delivery drivers available.

I jokingly told the wife I thought this was a great idea and we should just order in food. Of course I got "the look". Anyway at Church last night she was talking with her women's group and the subject of this prepackaged Thanksgiving delivered to your door came up. Many of younger women in the group were talking about how they do this every year because it's too hard to cook up all those foods. One even said that the "old fashioned cook everything holidays" were behind us. As the discussion went on it turned out that many of these women also did not know how to stuff and cook a turkey, let alone make gravy. So delivery was really their only option.

My wife offered to host a couple cooking classes next October at the church, but other than a few ladies most did not seem that interested.

That's good your wife is offering that class. I hope it's well attended. I did some classes years back, using our preschool kitchen and large dining room. Would take 25 people, and it was free. It always filled up. We did bread making (and pizza dough), seed planting and all about seeds, making "ready mixes" (like cake mix, pancake mix), and husband even did beer brewing. Many moms showed up for the bread making class that never even knew what to do with flour. It was fun, but a lot of work.
I saw our local Albertsons store has a cooked Thanksgiving meal for order. They deliver.
My husband would have a heart attack if I did that.

One year, when my wife was 8+ months pregnant on Thanksgiving with child number 6, I took everyone out to a nice restaurant that had a special closed-door thanksgiving buffet. There were perhaps 50 people there (half of which were family) and if you did not have a reservation you did not get inside. It was a very nice meal and everything was generally made the way someone would make it at home, but obviously with a touch of commercialism to it. My wife HATED it. In part because it wasn't the same as our normal thanksgiving and in part because she did not cook the meal with me. But I will admit (as long as she is not around) that I did enjoy not having to spend so much time cooking and cleaning, even if the food was not as good.

This thread makes me sad. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and my favorite part is having family over as we all help prepare a great meal. My family reserves what we call Thanksgiving Eve. We always do Christmas Eve which ended up being convenient as our family expanded and us kids got married and had multiple family obligations. So, Thanksgiving Eve was a natural transition for us. That way there is no "we have to do lunch and then hit dinner elsewhere" hassles. Makes for a good, low key time without a rush. To avoid multiple turkey meals I do 2 giant pork rib roasts in a sergeant at arms. Since i started that it has become a family wide favorite :)

It wears me out but I decided I will have it, do it, make it, until something major changes in my life.
I love Thanksgiving too!
By the way, green bean casserole is disgusting.
I plan my menu almost always the same, got to have or it isn't right! Tried getting daughter in law to bring this or that but instead she brought other dishes. Comfort family food for her when her family roots are half a continent away.
Thaw that turkey out ahead of time!
Looking for turkey sales!!

I would agree, if we are talking canned beans and canned cream of mushroom soup. But the way my wife makes it with homemade cream of mushroom soup, french fried crispy onions, and fresh string beans; it's absolutely delicious.

As our family expanded we just made evening pie our thing. We still do dinner for those what can or want to join us. They get enough guilt everywhere else for their time. Pie is really my wife's thing and everyone saves room for pie. They even get one to go

Even back when I was a kid we always had Christmas dinner on Christmas eve at grandma's house. Then everyone did their own thing christmas day. I kept this up with my kids.

Thanksgiving had always been on Thanksgiving day at grandma's. But the amount of food that woman cooked was amazing. 41 people one year and everyone went home with leftovers.

Turkey, goose and ham along with home made german sausage. It took a week to prepare for that meal. Others brought the pies as my grandma hated to bake.

By the way, I cranked the handle while grandpa put the meat in and guided the casing.
