It worked in Nagasaki! A doctor that was just outside of Hiroshima and lived through the bomb was in Nagasaki when the next one went off. He told everyone in the room to get down and cover. He saved twenty people from serious injuries and death. The two bombs only killed about 20 - 25% of the populations of the cities. Sorry to be the bearer of the truth but Coke never had cocaine in the recipe.. It did use a small amount of coca leaf juice but it was not processed into cocaine.
The coca leaf is still used for medicinal purposes today by chewing them. It relieves the symptoms of altitude sickness and is a cardio-pulmonary stimulant but is not addictive.
Cocaine is the extract of coca leaves using a solvent, filtering process and then crystallization into a rock-like chunk (rock or "crack cocaine"). It is then rinsed and powdered to make cocaine for the masses. It is typically cut with corn starch to prevent caking but other things can be used - things that are sometimes very bad for the end user.
Coka-a-cola never had cocaine in the mix. When the coca leaves became illegal in the USA they added caffeine as the stimulant. Caffeine is more addictive than the coca juice.
