I figured the Ma character was overacted, but found out later that it wasn't.

I remember the wagon with the off sized wheels and off sized horses and pa always said " Gonna have to fix that one of these days" about everything that was broken. Had those whacked out Indians too.

My dad claimed to know some the original characters from the book that the movie was made from and I knew a few that were like them when I grew up in Lofall, Washington. One guy I knew was Charlie Brown, he always drove old Packards from the 20's and 30's and bragged that he owned one of the last Packards that were made with hand riveted engine hoods.

I knew lots of people who were related to them. My being from N.Georgia . Our parents generation knew moonshiners. Corn liquor was even in the movie theatres passed around in mason jars. My friend and I took a swig of it once and almost choked. You could use that stuff for lamp oil.

NASCAR was a product of these folks.

I loved Ma & Pa Kettle. First movie I ever saw them in was The Egg & I. It had Fred McMurray but I can't remember who the main actress was. I believe that was the introduction of Ma & Pa?
