When I built my house I put down 3/4" oak floors. I finished them with a danish teak stain and poly.
I build a new master bedroom set and working on finish sanding when I can get away from my G/F; she knows I'm working on something, but dose not know what it is. I built everything out of maple and the keepsake/jewel box has maple burl draw fronts and side inlays.
I love dark wood finishes, but when we finished the pine dining room table and benches she wanted light stain. It looks OK to me, but will take more time to grow on me.
I don't want to ask her as it is her engagement surprise. We went furniture looking last week as she tells me how bad the current stuff is, but she was over overwhelmed with everything and did not get any hints.
I want to do a honey maple finish because I think it will bring out the grain better than a lighter finish. It would also give it a bit of a soft yellow hint.
How light would you go with a darker floor?
