'78 Plymouth Road Runner... I have no memory of this car. I know I would have looked at them while car shopping that year.

A Thunderbird from the net, either a '77 or a '78. I don't remember the difference between them but it seems the '78 was a foot shorter.

This one has the same colors as mine, white with blue vinyl roof & interior. It was a boat! But I drove 160miles everyday for work. I also played bluegrass every weekend all over the southeast.

Engine was a big block 400, great for cruising long distances and I put a lot of miles on it.. Had plenty of room for 5 pickers and a big trunk for instruments. Once drove to a festival in Florida with a bass fiddle strapped to the roof, that got a few looks.

I bought a slightly used '77 Thunderbird (6Kmiles) in 78 so I would have looked at every car available. Including a '78 Plymouth Road Runner.

Bluegrass.
Darn it, Peanut, you stirred up old memories, some as fr back as the 50s. Two of my close friends were guitar pickers, one of them very good at it, the other a solid accompanist. The latter guy was given an old fiddle, by an old man who played unrecognizable music on it after a few beers. My friend worked on and with that fiddle for maybe a decade before he got it to work for him and us listeners.

Went to at least a couple bluegrass festivals every summer for awhile. Stayed up beyond late into early listening to the field picking and sipping beer.

Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end . . .

they did

Saw these this morning, at the car show in the little town where I grew up.

These two are a SS396 Chevelle, and an SS427 Impala. But the guy who owns them is a well known local speed freak. There ain't a stock part on either one.

I love those small town car shows!!! So much fun to cruise around and check out the rides... that Chevelle and the ol' Chevy Nomad wagon have my name all over 'em, lol. Americana all the way, doesn't get any better than small town car shows!!! I like talking to the owners too, some of 'em have funny stories to tell...

I love those old cars, and the shows are fun. They used to come to our town the first Friday of every month. I was never a gear head, and could NEVER do what those guys do, but I admire their hard work, and the result.

My mom had a 56 Chevy same paint job as the bronze one. Not nearly that nice though. She got hit one morning in the fog by a little machine that worked on rail ties at a crossing down from the house. Tore the whole front end off of it.
Grandpa had a blue Galaxie 500 like the purple one except it was a hard top. White leather interior. Those were sweet cars

I'm thinking you could still mash the accelerator and burn rubber for half a block, lol...

Yes, I could do that, but never had a car that would do it. IMHO God was protecting me. He knew if I ever had a car like that, I would wrap it around a tree. I drove junkers in the early days. I loved the nice muscle cars but couldn't afford one until I graduated from college.

Ah, yes, the gutless beaters... they wouldn't actually burn rubber, but if ya cranked the wheel and THEN mashed the motor, the rubber would start to squeal, lol.

Better to take 'em into the dirt first, then the rubber wouldn't take such a beating, lol... ;)

At my son's wedding reception the guy that owns the home has some really nice cars.
He has a few others but you get the idea.
He was the nicest most down to earth guy you could meet.
He owns a construction company and works ever day. He's almost 80.
