In my opinion, this is the "muscle car" that really got the ball rolling. Nothing like a "goat!!"

1964 GTO was the first muscle car I ever rode in.
398 ci, 3 deuces, 4 speed. FAST.
It was not even originally a model.it was an option package on a Tempest.

I believe it was THE FIRST muscle car.

I believe you're correct...it was an, option package, not a separate line. The 389 tri-power was one o'f the best engines Pontiac ever built. That 6 cylinder overhead cam engine was a maintenance nightmare, but a very good engine in its own right and a hotrodder's delight!!

I would have to agree 100% with that, but would add that the whole "muscle car lineup" looks beter than the cheap pieces of garbage they produce today (but charge an arm and a leg for).

Out accelerate, and out corner everything (of the day) foolish enough to race it.
Watched a lot of friends get spanked.
The only thing I can tell you, if you push it hard, (like above) the spokes in the wheels will break.
(...and nobody is going to have sex in it)

Back in the 90s a friend of mine had one , v12..he took me for a ride once..OMG , yep, fast and fun.

But a fortune to keep it running ..high maintenance.

That Jag is a six cylinder, note the hump on the right side center of the hood. The 12 didn't have that but the hood was just a tad higher in the middle.
The XKE was my favoite car until 1967 - that is when they came with the aluminum radiator and had way too many problems with it. That was also the year the GT-40 was presented to the world. Now THAT is my favorite car. I will never own one because as long as it is a dream it is more than just another car.

I found this C4 Corvette locally 1988 , like new in and out. 57,000 original miles at 32 years old. I can get it for $7500 or little less.
I don't know much about all the different vette's .

Y'all got any input or advice for me ?

The TPI (Tuned Port Injection) engine came in the 88 TA I had that you may have seen.
It's a torque motor with a narrow power band.
Feels very impressive pinning you back in the seat when it peaks but it's not that fast.
I pulled it out and put real 'old-school' horsepower in it's place.

Speed is not that important...just old and like new, purty is nice.
Like my 30 year old Eldorado with 20k miles on it.
A 32 year old Vette , low miles all original would be nice....if I can enter and exit..

Well, with the top down, you could take the Mrs. on a great ride that would make her hair stand up.
I should mention that the TPI engine also performed flawless with no problems.
Ran it in the 1/8th mile strip before I pulled it; clocked 9.55 .
Just needed 100 more horsepower for me.

First muscle car is debatable, some say 49 Oldsmobile but to me the fastest I saw back in the early 60's was a 64 -426 wedge Hemi Plymouth. Easily a 11 second car with a few mods. Actual HP pegged the Dyno needle at 600hp.You could buy this version and race it anywhere but the Street version came out in 66.
