That is pretty neat. I wouldn't have guessed either. This make a 2nd first for me concerning Sicily. I had never seen or heard of a blood orange before. I was in Sicily early in the year when a species of blood orange got ripe. It blew my mind. I remember blood oranges, bad drivers and the glow of the volcano at night (Mt. Etna).

I have to say as well, I would never have guessed.
Quite interesting really, and look at the fuel saved reducing the tomatoes.

There is one thing that I would have expected--flies. Are flies not attracted to tomatoes and tomato paste, or do they not have flies in Sicily?
I wondered the same thing.
I looked it up and it seems a lot of Europe doesn't have a big fly problem.
Lucky them.
Interesting video.
I would love to taste that tomato paste.
