I like old houses too, the older and the more basic the better.
I dislike modern houses, they all look the same like they are out of an identikit plan-which they probably are.
One of the neat things about living in military housing is often times when families would depart from one post to another, they would hide a note in the home for subsequent occupants to find that told a little bit about who they were and what they enjoyed about the house or the area. We always hid a little story and where usually successful in finding the stories others left behind.
I stumble onto old abandoned cabins from time to time in Alaska and the cabin calls to me loudly wanting to tell me it’s story. If I have the time I try to look around for clues about those who shared their lives on that spot and in that home.
