Those who do not prioritize intelligence gathering, are just bumbling along, oblivious to when they will get a big nasty surprise at a time of someone else's choosing.
I have to laugh every time someone mentions needing board games or some other frivolous activity to address the boredom during a crisis. They think this will be an issue during a very severe long term crisis?
In reality, there will be insufficient time to do all the things you (and every other member of your family unit/group) need to be doing including:
- Standing guard 24/7
- Operating observation posts (at your dwelling and remote from it)
- Conducting recon patrols
- Monitoring radio communications and broadcasts
- Operating and maintaining remote sensing systems (like drones)
- Avoiding identifiable routines
The idea that you can just hunker down in a normal domestic dwelling and ignore the outside world (during a severe crisis) is untenable.
