I invite you to start studying why it is one of, if not the MOST IMPORTANT tools for your survival.

If you are confused, substitute "Critical to you second to second survival "INFORMATION" in place of the word "INTELLIGENCE".

    "an astonishing lack of discernment"

1 Introduction

An important step in the intelligence gathering process is the fusion of information provided by several sources. The objective of this process is to build an up-to-date and correct view of the current situation with the overall available information in order to make adequate decisions.

Moreover, to succeed in this process, it is important to associate with each available information, some attributes like the number of the sources that support it, their reliability, the degree of truth of the information etc. For the moment, these attributes are managed by the human operator when he fuses information provided by the different sources.

Those who do not prioritize intelligence gathering, are just bumbling along, oblivious to when they will get a big nasty surprise at a time of someone else's choosing.

I have to laugh every time someone mentions needing board games or some other frivolous activity to address the boredom during a crisis. They think this will be an issue during a very severe long term crisis?

In reality, there will be insufficient time to do all the things you (and every other member of your family unit/group) need to be doing including:
  1. Standing guard 24/7
  2. Operating observation posts (at your dwelling and remote from it)
  3. Conducting recon patrols
  4. Monitoring radio communications and broadcasts
  5. Operating and maintaining remote sensing systems (like drones)
  6. Avoiding identifiable routines
The idea that you can just hunker down in a normal domestic dwelling and ignore the outside world (during a severe crisis) is untenable.

While this is a critical skill that you must master, and you must, know that others are likely gathering intelligence against you. This is a two way street. Just throwing this out there. What is your deception plan? That concept was beat into me as a young pup in that game.

@Hardcalibres, I couldn’t agree more on your comments on some folks thinking they will be bored and needing things to bide idle time. Surprise, surprise. That ain’t going to happen.

...have to laugh every time someone mentions needing board games or some other frivolous activity to address the boredom during a crisis....

...Aaaand there's 'Normalcy Bias' bleeding right thru.. (or, perhaps rather 'Bias towards normal'.. Ergo: trying to 'drown out' / distract from / dilute the hideous Reality the affected-person is confronted with, in "hope" the 'storm' (crisis) will quickly pass, and everything will "go Back to normal"... Sometimes it Can - Sometimes it Can't, and Survivors will adapt / adjust attitudes / Overcome - and move on. Those incapable, will Fertilize. o_O

...What is your deception plan?..

Yep - 'Subterfuge' is a highly-underappreciated Weapon.. 👍

depends on where you are I suppose.
in a city there could be a threat around every corner.
in the countryside you are more likely to hear something coming a long way off, its more likely to be civilians looting than a military unit and there will be lots of shouting and other noise like breaking windows and such. thats if they get this far which is unlikely in a country like Britain.

In your quest to gather data, to make Data Driven Decisions (the 3d's). Be mindful of the prominent power of confirmation bias that modern (social media) era has created. In monstrous proportions?

Even this forum? Mostly like minded folks reinforcing our predetermined beliefs? Sorry moderators? But we must actively seek out opposing view points.

Extremely easy to do if you are conservative. Just tune into main stream media in any form of it's outlet and you will be inundated in a very short time with nonsensical and outrageous attacks on your common sense?

Your cue to change channels is every time you hear "LGBTQAFU"? Lest you become too far " adjusted "?

Being aware of trouble before trouble finds you is extremely important. You must include time for everyone to participate and gather information on your surrounding area.

Also most everyone will no longer have the convenience of supplies delivered or even the convenience of going to a store for whatever you need. Obtaining water and filtering it. Doing laundry without a washer and dryer. Washing dishes. Taking a bath or shower. Creating hot water. Growing food, hunting, trapping and foraging. Repairing everything tgat breaks often improvising parts.

Sanitation of human waste and garbage. Preserving food in more time consuming methods. Maintaining everyone's health and treating sicknesses in people and your animals.

Free time is not something anyone will have an abundance of.
