A swift-moving passerby came through last evening but didn't stop to chat. I am afraid he/she was looking for our newest spotted little friend, or maybe these three new black squirrels.
In any case, his/her mere presence reminds us that life is precious and for many - it can be tragically short.
THREE black squirrels in a tree. ONE black squirrel isn't that uncommon, but three is unheard of. These are technically black morphs of Eastern Gray squirrels but they are anything BUT gray. Occurs 1 in 10,000.
Black squirrels are thought to occur in response to climate - darker fur means more heat retention which would be a good thing in an ice age. Maybe this means we're gonna have another really cold and snowy winter?
