In California, time is the more practical measure. I remember visiting my brother-in-law out there when our kids were young. We wanted to go to Disneyland. I asked him how far it was. "5 miles". I said "Great, we can be there in a jiffy". He said, "Yeah, about an hour and a half if you can avoid rush hour".
