We make our pack similarly. We don't cut the hind kegs off. we cut a slot between the hind tendon and the bone. The front leg is cut similarly but not stripped back as far and goes through the slot in the rear leg and used as a toggle. The deer is packed up and down and the hind legs are used as a shelf for your rifle. Same hunting area.
Thanks......For semi-related interest. You might fine how they harvested Polar Bears with a "Kind'a" hook type thing interesting. It was not a hook and line set-up. They bound sharp "Y" shaped branches closed, wrapped with guts and meat. The Polar Bear would eat, and in the bears digestive process the sharp branches would spring open. They would follow the bear till it was weak enough to safely approach and finish the kill.
