I've checked those, but the shelf life isn't the greatest and it pretty low quality. Looking for something that'll last long and is high quality. I'll keep searching

I'd rather have a good quality product that tastes good and can last a little longer than 10 years. There's gotta be a company out there that cans good meat

I would figure survival trumps taste, you are not going to get a nice canned steak that's going to last, fat content dictates longevity and it's the fat that gives many meats it's taste. If you are looking for a five star seated dinner meats your not going to find it in the long term section of preserved meats unfortunately.

Yea I gotcha! I googled best canned meats and I found a couple companies in Ohio. Ones called Werling and the other is called best canned meat. They say their products lasts at least 25 years "from experience" we'all see about that! Haha they have good reviews too. They claim to be the best, www.bestcannedmeat.com

I'm extremely sceptical of the 25yr claim (that's not on all cans) on some meats it's 15yrs but then on their website it states to store; "25+ Years Shelf Life In Climate Controlled Environment low humidity" so basically as long as you have power the 25yr stands, without power you get 5 to 7 year shelf life in other words short term survival food without power. Kindly negates the fact on long term survival food especially in the south where their is high humidity and certainly it's climate isn't mechanically controlled (without power) On a side note, sounds good but given I have no guarantee of having power to preserve this meat nor the storage space in the frig for the next 25yrs I'll pass.

I would really love for someone to test this in 25yrs, fat content goes rancid through a natural process of fat oxidation and/or fat hydrolysis after a period of time regardless of temps.

I'm gonna call Werlings and Best Canned Meat Tuesday to see about the "from experience" statement!

I personally am no expert on this subject. I'm sure many here know better than me. However I've been told by multiple sources in the know that as long as seals arent compromised...expiration dates are a non issue. Besides...I doubt you will even need them to last 25 years. Just slowly rotate inventory over time. Just my opinion.

I've ate and eat food years past expiration dates on many foods and have shown that here, I think it was 11 years past it's expiration date, it's not just the seal one needs to concern themselves with, it's also the lining inside the can, some are very thin clear seal that contains BPA these cans shouldn't be stored above 75deg (though at my age I'm not overly concerned about BPA, it's the kids that may have a problem), some are a white layer that is an enamel. Rotating is the proper technique

Just searching through google I found this testimony. Seems as though canned foods that are heated to temperature to kill micro organisms and the air tight stays in tact that the food inside will last indefinitely. http://outdoorselfreliance.com/100-year-old-canned-food-safe-to-eat/

Most canned goods are canned that way, that still doesn't prevent some foods from going rancid, I don't know much about the company though I didn't see anywhere if the cans are stainless steel or tin? and what lining are in the cans. I also have a problem with Climate Controlled Environment the website stated (lack of information) I'm sure the meat taste good I don't doubt that but 25+ years out, the company talks low sodium content but sodium is also an preserver in the majority of canned meats (why the high sodium content in other brand meats) and has been for centuries, If I keep canned meat in the frig I can probably double the expiration date though the nutritional values will change and perhaps a slight variation of taste and color.

The company bestcannedmeats isn't very fourth coming on the longevity without Climate Controlled Environment (real world situations) the majority of the population don't have the means to store food in a CCE unless they have a properly constructed basement or a walk-in cooler.

If the company found a way to can meat with very little sodium nitrite and or sodium nitrate and keep it's fat content and can be stored at 75degF (average temp of an upstairs pantry) and give it a 25yr shelf life I say kudos!!!

i wont trust any canned meat past 5 years.that be store bought and home canned meats alike..on acount, thats a chance id rather not take...

Yeah, what Mav said. Expiration dates are only good for having an idea of the overall age of the product, not whether it's still good. Oh, BTW....
Howdy from west Texas & welcome to the forums! You're off to a good start on here.

For the most part i stock what we use then rotate . I do stock spam and canned fish . Also can from our garden . And do not forget the great DAK hams .

I love spam. Growing up in Hawaii it's what many would consider a staple food there. Very popular in the culture. The can and company says 5 years but many claim online to keep it 7-10. It was made popular in war times or so I am told by G.I.'s. I hardly think it's an acquired taste, I think it has a bad reputation perhaps surrounding misconception and relation to spam mail.

It's higher in price per oz than lean ground beef so I have to assume you're leaning along the lines of steak.

Google results Hawaii and spam https://www.google.com/search?q=hawaii+and+spam&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
