Why is my rhubarb so wimpy? Its small compared to.other i see in the area.

I put half rotted compost on mine one winter two years ago, as the soil needed topping up. Mine are planted in tractor tyres. I thought maybe I'd killed it, as it wasn't great last year; but it was worth it- this year its fabulous. Maybe a bit of mulching in the winter? The ground might be a bit poor, or hard?

Magpie is right, compost it. Rhubarb is a heavy feeder. Give it a lot of well rotted compost and it should do well. Dig it in a bit when you add it. You could also give it a boost by watering it with some compost tea.

Rhubarb Crisp

8 cups of coarsely chopped rhubarb
1 cup sugar,
1/4 cup flour
2 tablespoons of cinnamon.
Toss that all together and into an 8x8x2 baking dish.
Then
1 cup flour,
1 cup brown sugar,
1/2 cup rolled oats and
1/2 cup melted butter.

Mix this together and spread on top of the rhubarb.
Into 375 degree oven for 35 minutes.
