This is a perfect example of the left creating a knee jerk driven mass hysteria to whip up the masses into them demanding gun controls, if this passes it WILL NOT BE THE END 10 shot mags will soon be down to 8, then 6 etc, calbres will be further limited, where you can carry or use them will be restricted. if it is not stopped now Virgina will join California in the new Socialists States Of America.

SB 16 would make any semi-automatic rifle with a fixed capacity of more than 10 rounds illegal. In addition, the possession of any center fire rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and that has a thumbhole stock, pistol grip or a second hand grip or a threaded barrel would also automatically become a felony.

Any semi-automatic pistol with a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 10 rounds will also be illegal to own if this bill passes. If the pistol has the ability to accept a detachable magazine other restrictions apply, which include banning threaded barrels and prohibiting pistols weighing 50 ounces or more.

Shotguns with the ability to accept detachable magazines or having a fixed capacity of over seven rounds would also become illegal to own.

As a result, every rifle with the common AR-15 design and many pistols and shotguns that are currently in common use for personal defense and target shooting would be banned. Since they would be illegal to own, they would have to be either surrendered or seized by law enforcement authorities.

Proposed Senate Bill 18 makes it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to buy any firearm, as well as making it illegal under this age to own a handgun. This bill would also require background checks for gun sales between two private citizens, with an exemption for immediate family members.

SB 18 makes it a felony to leave a loaded gun in such a manner as to endanger the life of any person under the age of 18. This bill would also make it a crime for any person to authorize a child under the age of 18 to use a firearm without the direct supervision of an adult.

This would presumably make it a crime for children to defend themselves with firearms against intruders trying to break into their homes and do them harm.

Senate Bill 64 states that a person is guilty of a felonious paramilitary activity if that person teaches or demonstrates the use or application of a firearm and has reason to know that such training will result in the furtherance of a civil disorder.

This bill makes training people in the use of firearms potentially risky business, as any instructor could potentially be held responsible for his student’s misuse of a firearm. A court could theoretically determine the instructor “had reason to know” that person was going to commit a crime, even if his intentions were not openly stated.

SB 64 also states that one or more persons with the intent to intimidate any person or group of persons by drilling or parading with a firearm will be guilty of a felony. The bill suggests a minimum fine of $50,000 for this offense as well as jail time.

Senate Bill 22 would, with certain exemptions, disallow for the purchase of more than one handgun over a 30-day period.

Senate Bill 51 would prohibit a person from carrying a concealed handgun onto the premises of any public space where alcoholic beverages have been approved for sale or where alcohol is being consumed.

House Bill 9 would make it mandatory to report the theft of a firearm within 24 hours. Failure to do so would result in a potential fine of $250.

Nuts!

Definitely kind of a scary overreach. I don’t buy the slippery slope theory, and am not against some common sense restrictions like better background and mental health checks, but some of the things on Docs list really are disturbing. Making so many of the existing guns illegal to own even for law abiding citizens isn’t common sense. I do think it’s too easy for mentally unstable people to access guns in this country, but also believe in the right to defend yourself and family too. Hopefully some middle ground can be reached.

Brent try and get the Liberals to pass mental health laws and watch how fast and loud they scream about the rights of the mentally ill. Funny how none of this applies to the rights of the gun owner. The proposed laws that Dr. Henley list is not even half of the proposed laws being considered. Restrictions on indoor gun ranges that require 90% of the clients be law enforcement and that all persons using the range show proof (state issued I.D.) of name, address and age --- gun registration by any other name.. Outdoor ranges can only be in commercial zones and if an existing outdoor range location is rezoned, then the range must close down. Even if the range is on your own private property, out in the country, if the zoning commission changes the zone designation, you would not be able to shoot on your own property. And since these laws have proven so hateful, the politicians are proposing changes to the recall laws that would make it virtually impossible to recall these azz hats from office. There was a time for good gun laws but that is long past. The left will not stop until all guns are confiscated and only the government and the criminals will have guns. Think VZ and Madura.

This is why we have a split political system. The left wants to disarm everyone, the right wants machine guns on every citizen. Hopefully they can come to a consensus somewhere in the middle that makes sense. Ok, I’m an optimist here, and greatly oversimplifying the issue, but hoping for the best outcome here.

Not quite mate, Socialist democrats want everyone to be disarmed EXCEPT for them and their agents because inevitably they will become dtraconian and repressive and will only remain in power by force of arms., Happened in Russia, China, Eastern Europe, Cuba, Venezuela, Cambodia, Vietnam etc and its how the EU is moving and the UK. it would be pure folly to think it would be different in the US.

Brent, hope in one hand and defecate in the other and you know which one will fill up first. List one post where the right (Senators, Congressmen) has advocated for everyone getting machine guns? I can certainly list numerous posts where the left has stated they want to get rid of guns. The middle ground was agreed upon and passed a long time ago. What has the tax stamps got to do with safety? SBR tax, Suppressor tax. Way past reasonable, now it is time to remove all the firearm laws and start again. If felons can be given the right to vote again, then they should be allowed to own firearms. If you can't buy a firearm until you are 21, then you can't vote or drive a vehicle until you are 21. If you can't buy more than 1 firearm per month, then you can't fill your vehicle more than once a month. When the Liberal Democrats start apply the same restriction to voting, alcohol, driving, abortions, as they do to gun rights, then and only then will I believe they are truly committed to their idea of safety and responsibility. They fear the citizens, so they need to disarm us, just that simple.

Of course the Democrats will have the full and unconditional support from all the Latin American gangs residing in the US and whom also make up large numbers of the ten of thousands of "" Refugees"" heading north right now. if you guys give up your guns it will be a bloodbath.

Still have lots of family in Virginia. That idiot governor is making a BIG MISTAKE. You can bet they will be out voting the next time around. They normally don't care for politics but this has really angered them. Time for the remaining "Silent Majority" to speak. Obama (and especially corrupt Hillary) angered a lot of them, now the local politicians are angering the rest. Finally, the sleeping giant is rising.

I’m interested to see how this goes. I am not for bans at all. Registering doesn't scare me, so I’m not too alarmed yet.

Think again Brent. Everybody on this forum is a prepper or wants to be one. Except for the few from those institutions spying on us here. All prepper will be bugging in or out. Most preppers are well armed. NOT ONE OF THEM wants to be found or have known where they are hiding, bugging out to, their BOL or which weapons, ammo, calibers or whatever they will need post-SHTF. The VERY FIRST STEP to taking that what you have, is KNOWING what you have; meaning: MAKING YOU REGISTER WHAT YOU HAVE...SIT-Rep. Why do you need to register your car? to pay taxes. Why do you need to register your house? to pay taxes. Why do you need to register your guns??? Taxes? Don't kid yourself, and even more!!!don't let anybody else kid you either...LIVE FREE, GP

I understand about the slippery slope and can’t say I’m not aware of the process. I often think of he Jews in Germany and across Europe. They didn’t start gassing them immediately, but started with disarming and registration.

A bit of good news

Not really, they plan on replacing the ban with registration - the more "reasonable" alternative. Textbook gun grabbing maneuver - two steps forward, one step back.

Then down the road they will be able to more effectively enact a ban. That is unless Virginians throw them out of office first.

Even if registering doesn't scare you, the fact that the government requires you to either do so or become an outlaw should. What right does the government have to force law abiding citizens to divulge their own private choices (such as possession of a certain type of firearm)?

this will never end,,,,to many chicken CHIT aholes out there who don't think people should have anything more deadly than a straw and some spitballs,,,,,some day they may win and take away all our guns but many of us are old enough that we most likely won't be around when it happens,,,,,,,,,,,,,

at least I hope I am not here to see it

Who is THEY who can decide WHO can own guns and who cannot? , the normal answer is COURTS obeying the nations LAWS in PROHIBITING convicted criminals.

So what happens when THEY decide you are a CRIMINAL for your beliefs or protests against THEIR repressive government?
