even when the humidity dropped to just 15 percent – which is low, even for desert air


15% is not low for a desert. Our humidity was 3% the other day. We are currently at 12%. I wonder how low of a humidity it will work at.

Not clear if it is mechanical process of squeezing the water out or if heat is required to initiate the transition to a hydrophobic state or both to get the water out.

It seems like it refers to 'gentle heat' to release the water but looks like you could just wring them out. Very interesting.
