Send some rain to Alabama. My garden looks terrible... I am waiting on my stew canning operation... the broth is very tasty, so I have high hopes for the stew. I threw my potatoes, carrots, turnips and tomatoes in with some seared beef.... 7 quarts...

Oh I'm gonna be greedy on this one. . . We haven't seen any rain for weeks either ;)

Another thing I like to tell people about is savings accounts. If you don’t have money for emergencies they will put you in debt. I don’t have a crystal ball or anything but I can guarantee one thing, life is full of emergencies. Everyone needs to put something away to help cover them.

always keep a little cash stashed away

Finally beans. Started picking at 7 a.m. and am still breaking beans.

Told my daughter that I was going to write "bacon green beans" so that the terrorists won't eat them and starve.

Is that mean?
Lol!

Love that idea Robin! :p

For me right now I am still picking lots of butternut squash and some patty squash with tomatoes at a tricklr. Picked the first watermelon this week but sent it home with granddaughter when she visited this week. My next one picked will be made into watermelon butter. My southern beans have been coming in very well and have been shelling and drying the ones that we haven't been eating on. Starting to get a good number of cushaw pumpkins too.

My gardens are much later than usual.

As long as I get some produce, I'm cool. I don't do any pumpkins or squash other than basic yellow and zucchini. My corn is actually 4 ft high which is major for me.

My soil doesn't grow corn. I just had some spare room and thought I would try some Peaches and Cream.

I canned all the corn I need early in the season. My some likes it canned better than frozen. Which is good in case of electrical outages.

Squash and zucchini have slowed down . Tomatoes are coming in fast , mostly bigger boys , banana peppers are coming in faster than We can keep up with , going to dig potatoes this week but leaving sweet potatoes in the ground for about another month .

I had a chuckle at your post, but you realize it won’t work, right? Anyone who is a terrorist is breaking every major religion’s rules (and that includes Islam and Judaism) already so I doubt a taboo on pork would stop them from eating your delicious beans!

Islamist would behead their own Children for even touching pork . Or their daughters for showing their face , Wife for embarrassing them .
Actually, I know several Muslims who do not wear a burka and drive and think and eat pork even. Not one has been killed yet.

Thoes would be socially known as muslims not followers of islam and would be killed by islamist . It happens every day in muslim dominant Countries. Mohammed would recognize isis as being His own . Same with al-Qaida , Taliban , muzzy brotherhood .
Not that I meant to hijack this thread .
Bacon dipped 9mm hollow points work well too .

It's cool.

My peppers ain’t doing good, best weather for peppers I’ve seen in years but ain’t doing good. Apparently I ain’t the only one here in these parts. Tomatoes are doing great along with squash and melons.
Strange, usually they do about the same. Are they not developing or is the plant sick?

I have good luck with hot peppers but never sweet peppers. It's the walnut trees. I cut them, but the poison is still there. Looks like it would affect both types. Both are nightshade .

I’ve grown peppers every year and had good luck, they going from a good green leaf to a yellow and welting, all 35 of them, not a watering problem nor soil just not going to be a year for them. I think it has a lot to do with the smokey air and filtered sun because of it.

Another example of Cognitive Dissonance...
There is no book that can explain away the plain fact that Islam has been promoting violence and subjugation of "infidels" for hundreds of years.

But there is one book that explains why...The Qur'an

Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But God knoweth, and ye know not.
— Qur'an 2:216

Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them." This because they contended against God and His Apostle: If any contend against God and His Apostle, God is strict in punishment. Thus (will it be said): "Taste ye then of the (punishment): for those who resist God, is the penalty of the Fire." O ye who believe! when ye meet the Unbelievers in hostile array, never turn your backs to them.
— Qur'an 8:12-15

Prophet! Rouse the believers to wage war. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will subdue two hundred: if a hundred, they will subdue a thousand of the disbelievers: for these are a people without understanding.
— Qur'an 8:65

But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem;
-- Qur'an 9:5

Fight those who believe not in God and in the Last Day, and who do not forbid what God and His Messenger have forbidden, and who follow not the Religion of Truth among those who were given the Book, till they pay the jizyah with a willing hand, being humbled.
— Qur'an 9:29

Doreena fooled again...

Do not waste your time reading this propaganda. To understand Islam, learn instead about (1) the Quran (2) the life of Mohammad (he was not a man of peace), and (3) Islam's subsequent history as a rapacious and bloody political doctrine. Some understanding of Islamic law as set forth in the Sharia (Reliance of the Traveler) is also useful to understand why Muslims in the West push for the laws they do. Also read The Closing of the Muslim Mind. This tells why Islam for a period of time was progressive, using logic and free will, building on Greek philosophy (Mu'tazilis), and how that was slowly lost when scholars found that predetermination (alAsh'ari d. 935) was more consistent with the Koran. It seems consistent that Muslims do better when they ignore or rationalize away much of the Koran.

Went to the bean garden today and the 5 inches of rain has collapsed the bean poles.

Now the beans have knocked over the tomato vines (no loss there) and covered the squash.

I felt like crap anyway and to see this mess.

My experiments (Beans and cukes) are coming up, so I tried some radishes and English peas today. We will see if anything comes of them...I seed save, so these are last year’s seeds, no real loss if nothing works.
