Liberals will never become conservatives.
I disagree. I know several screaming liberals that finally saw the light and are now die hard conservatives.
My SIL was a Trump hating Seattle liberal that one day told me she was wrong about him.
I almost had a heart attack. I jumped up and yelled it's about time.
On the other side I don't know a single conservative that became a liberal. I'm not saying it doesn't happen just I don't know any.

I guess maybe I'm thinking about all the social issues that liberals believe in (abortion, free medical, free college, no wall...illegals with voting rights, welfare, big govt, lgbtxyz, drag queen porn, etc...etc...) and not just thinking that Trump was an ok dude. It's alot of differences, not just voting for an R instead of a D.

If you get deep enough into bush Alaska, "national" political titles vanish. It is only about the future of that Alaskan village, or the inhabitants of a small dock on a river.

1 Question: At what point are they willing to work again?
i may have misunderstood your question...lol..you were addressing liberals..i think not working

i was thinking in grid down when do people work again...lol

correct me if i didnt get it this time either...lol

Doing something productive - paid or not ??? How's that?
I wasn't thinking like at a 9-5 job - just willing to contribute.
they are going to have to get cold, hungry and thirsty first before they think of doing stuff for themselves without pay .

i recall a person freezing their rear off in a cabin and after a bit they decided to light a fire and how they were amazed the place got warm....lol

if you want fish to eat you going to have help haul nets to boat, set nets, pull nets, clean fish and then you get to eat. they going to have lose the mentality of hours put in vs. wages earned type thing.

Sorry, I am still confused. Are you referring to Government, or fellow humans in the general area where the grid is down..??

I just meant all the folks living off the system who feel entitled to my tax dollars. The leaches of society so to speak.

You have noticed they are WINNING. And that there is totally ZERO interest in mitigating it.

there are so many here in the us who have no idea of the simple basics of living and what all the basic work it entails. they got addicted to pushing buttons and things work. money is a number on a screen that a plastic card lets them buy. we live in an artificial world. when things start to fall aprt- and i 100% know it will---most americans will have no idea what to do.=

especially when the meds run out.

people will find out why folks were always busy. might not be busting gut type thing but busy. even just sitting and breaking beans in the heat of day from picking that morning before sun got so high in sky.

all hands on deck !

It is an interesting article, and I agree with most of it. I do not agree with the conclusion, and would like to know where they come up with the fact that 90% of the population will be dead after one year. At best I would challenge the number, but truthfully, I think it is hogwash.

The Bubonic Plague lasted for about 7 years, and had a devstating effect on the population of the world. In Europe, which was the most heavily populated at the time (1347 -1352) it lasted for five years and an estimated 50 million people died. That was 40-50% of the population. If you use the worlwide statistics less than 25% of the population died.

The population of the U.S. is 330 million and change. So Ken J., the author, is telling me that 300 million people are going to die because there is no power? JMHO, but that is preposterous. Show me how you come up with that number. I agree it will be bad, and a lot of people will die, but 90%? Come on Man!

water is the biggie...these giant cities and regions that pump all their water are going to suffer. 90% seems a bit high overall...but 90% might be low for certain regions. i mean can you see millions from a big city searching for drinking water? we may get to see effect of no water from lake mead and powell yet.

fires...fires jumping building to building and home to home is another biggie.

I can't imagine anyone even living in Phoenix or Tucson without water or AC. That would be 100 percent gone.

With all due respect, people have been living in that area for over 10,000 years. Air conditioning wasn't put in houses until 1929. Water would certainly be an issue, but people would adapt and survive.

that was then and this is now...we as a society are soft and wimpy as a whole now. total opposites of scale.

the loss of a/c in southeast will do a bunch in.hot and humid..all the snowbirds and transplants from up north that are old and older will suffer.ability to have a box fan will be solid gold infrastructure in ones own home.i seen the time myself i needed to stand in front of a/c to cool off after pushing way to hard in way to hot a sun and or humidity. when you just standing in garden doing zero work and its dripping off end of your nose..well..its humid. i seen local weather guy reference my area as same humidity as jungles of south america more than once.i am just glad i am not in the deep south.

we just cant compare today society..especially younger to greatest generation of those lived through depression and poverty.

an older society...i live in a place with a high population of older folks. i can tell you this...they are leaving this earth as of late...along with younger folks but i wont bring that portion into this thread. but its to a point its effecting things around me and community.loss of experience and knowledge is happening fast.

I guess I put more faith, if that is the right term, into the animal instinct to survive. I agreee. I don't have much faith in the younger generation, but WTH? It's HOT!! Boo Hoo. Are you just going to roll over and die? I for one don't think so. If you are going to live you are going to have to find a way. Borrow, Beg, or Steal. Maybe it is the wake up call that everyone needs. For those of us that prepare it won't take five minutes to realize NOBODY is coming to help you. For younder people it will take longer, but eventually they will be forced into a grim new reality. Some will give up, but IMHO most will try to survive.

i agree i would bust a gut before yielding..maybe we have to much testosterone??...lol..i just work smarter and i get work done before it gets hot.theres a reason grandaddy was up at 3am and outside before sun was up and back on porch between 10am and 11am

sadly i hate to say it but as of late i am witnessing younger folks crumpling.even ones i had put faith in have now crumpled.

I grew up out there, and still have family there, so I know it all too well. The younger generation is a mixed bag. Some are as worthless as a screen door on a submarine. My faith is somewhat restored by those that volunteer for the military, and the caliber of indiviuals at the service academies. Hopefully, they will carry the day.

I question this:

After 1 week:
  • Hospitals overwhelmed and struggling to perform emergency services
I do not think there will be hospital personnel to do much of anything in the hospitals after the realization that we are all screwed. I think that would only take a day or two at most. Those folks are likely going to be worrying about their own families and needs. I'm glad I'm not working in the hospital anymore, but if I were it would be a difficult decision to walk away and care for my own family instead. But, I'm pretty sure I would. I would start home after a 16 hour shift (doing the best for my patients that I could) and I highly doubt I would go back since it would be a 30 mile commute. I just don't think it's reasonable to think doctors and nurses would work in the hospital for a week during a grid down situation.

Something to ponder.
How long will most people live with NOTHING that they don't produce themselves?
Without power you have very little. Hospitals can't run without electricity and water. They need daily deliveries of chemicals and gases. they have up to 72 hours of reserve power but only if the controls are not fried.
Now extend that to every industry and neighborhood and after a year you have a bunch of dead people, some still dying and a few that are alive with a handle on staying that way.
Those that cooperate and WORK together are doing OK. They found love and trust or at least trust and respect.
