I realize this isn't specifically about a chicken but I wanted to share that we butchered a turkey today. We got her from a neighbor when she was a peep. My wife and son got attached to her (I know, I know...) and didn't want to butcher her. Here lately she has been having trouble walking and finally DW said she has to go before something eats her and she's wasted. She said if I kill her she'd do the butchering, so that's what we did.

Dad and I gave her a respectful, humane sendoff and we gave the carcass to DW, who processed her while Dad and I cut firewood and did some other work around the farm here.

She dressed out at 25 pounds. DW cooked her for dinner and it was really good.
