,if I ran the show ,I would look at each states budget ,,,,if a state was only using 10% of their funds for the people I would slash their budget by 90%,,,the Feds should not be paying for any pet programs

So let me see if I get this right. You say gov't is corrupt, that people are greedy/corrupt, but YOU would run this right if you were in charge?

TF ,,,you do like to twist words ,,,,,signs of a weak man

How did I get that wrong? In your first quote, you used "I" three times. You said "if I ran the show", I said "YOU would run this right if you were in charge", and I'm the one twisting words?

Here's another deep thought to consider. You said:
in fact everyone can do what they feel like as long as it doesn't spill over on my property
But you are perfectly fine with the gov't crossing the line deep into my wallet? Seriously, what's the difference between crossing your property line and other capital? Either we live in a capitalistic society where private property exists or the gov't can take what they want? And that includes cash, assets, and land. Think about this.

this is pointless,,,,welfare is going nowhere it will be here when we are dead and gone,,,,,you may not like it but we are stuck with it,,,stop your damned whining and move on

The thread topic is "welfare where does it really go". So when folks say it is wasted and should be ended, they are on topic. Nobody is entitled to welfare / support. That is a fake concept fostered for weak people that failed to make good financial / personal decisions in life. The government got into the charity business to buy votes and weaken organized religion. So far nobody has shown one bit of proof that there is a legal form of"Human Entitlement" for any financial support from the government - -state or federal. NOBODY is entitled to a "Free Lunch". Government steals the money under force of arms, to buy votes and keep their pissant supporters employed. Will it end, probably not, should it end, absolutely. Our stolen money buys too many votes for the liberals and rhino's.

UP makes some great points.

Let me add that the 'welfare system' (not the recipients, but the people who run it and get their paycheck out of it) is massive and against any reform. I just searched, and over 60k people get their paycheck from SSA. I know there are 1000's that all they do is 'write' grant applications for 'free' money (cough). I'd wager there are millions employed by various stages of welfare (or taxpayers). Ending gov't welfare means the end of their jobs.

Just my 2 cents worth here (worth less than a penny these days). I have almost totally eliminated my giving to ANY charity organization. The government keeps expanding their "welfare" giving so why should I be paying twice. If the government want to take it on, go for it and I will back off and let them handle it. As far as I am concerned, the Government is the worse organization in the world and screws up anything they touch.

As far as the people in general, I feel most are honest and hard working. They will help their neighbors when need be. Any time we have had a natural disaster in my area, the neighbors jumped in and helped each other. The elderly and families were well taken care of. People would help and there was no question about cost. If and when any government entity showed up (which never happens) we will be back "up and running". Again, in my case, I do this because it is the "right" thing to do. If someone, especially related to the government, told me I HAD to do something, NO WAY in hell will I do it. I help because I want to and not because I am told to.

It really aggravates me when I see those NEWS (corrupt news organizations) stories where people are crying and whining because "NO ONE" is helping them. GET OFF YOUR SORRY BEHIND AND HELP YOURSELF. The government will just get into the way in most cases.

Now, give the government it's due. While the community can clean up and take care of their neighbors, there is also large and long term projects that will need to be completed. That is where the government should be concentrated. While we do need the government in a lot of area, they get into the way when it comes to the individual. JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH!

The difference that I've noticed about people who support government welfare and those who don't, depends a lot on how much federal tax they have stolen from their income, if any.
It's very easy for someone who pays little to no fed tax to support this bloated welfare system.

AD makes a good point.

At the least welfare recipients should be given a choice. Option #1: Get welfare but denied the right to vote for xx years (depending on how much welfare, past benefits, etc). Option #2: no welfare and gets to vote. Pick one, and only one. BTW, again welfare includes things like food stamps, gov't housing, SSI, etc. It does not include social security & pensions, those are earned benefits.
