Went to Walmart for a few things this morning. Actually got out for $26.
Dairy was where I saw shortages. Only name brand sour cream and cream cheese which made me wonder (not until after I was home) if they are pulling their product so they can sell the name brands- like if they are getting close to date. I will check next time!

Produce departments tend to have fewer selections and lower quality.
And I can't get spicy chicken patties - plenty of regular patties, but no spicy.
Other than that, things seem to be pretty well in stock.

The real issue now is price. Things are in stock, but the prices have gone up so much that I can't afford to buy them.

DW works as a contractor, putting up signs at Walmart.
She was told today the ships are being unloaded & Walmart are getting TWO trucks a day now. And they need to sale stuff cheap, because it is time for winter stuff.
This is South Carolina & I have not been in a Walmart in months, but this is what she was told today.

I went to WM last week and did indeed find a few good clearance sales. They were doing inventory of the store while I was there, which means they are getting rid of the old so that they can introduce the new. I don't always go down their clearance isle, b/c it's usually a joke. It's usually just junk there that I'm not interested in....but last week they had some good stuff there.

I got some 'no trespassing signs' for .25 each, some kids bubbles packs for .50 (for gifts), and some other stuff I can't remember now. In the sporting goods section I found battery testers for $2.50 that were $13. I got 3 of them so I could put one in the garage, barn, and boat. Oddly enough, they didn't really have any good clearnace deals in the outdoor patio area yet.

Went Krogering looking for ANY chicken patties, nothing but wings and nuggets.
I can make ANY patties taste like KFC or Popeye's cooked it. basic Italian seasonings, red, white, and black pepper season all and garlic powder. zap
the chicken in question with butter PAM and dust it before frying or mix it right in the flour. makes funky tasting gravy though.

What was known as the cheaper cuts of meat are a thing no more. 😞 beef cheeks, oxtail and the like would be given away at one point, or the houndsmen would take them for dog food.
Apparently, they are now a delicacy in the posh restaurants, and for people who like to run their ovens all day in the summer. My butcher sends his to the city now; which is two hours away.

Oxtails have been not cheap for a while here, especially given that they are mostly bone. I haven't even seen them lately, but I haven't been looking for them either.

Meat is still high here. Pork seems to have come down just a little. Bacon is pretty close to pre-pandemic price at $4 to $6 depending on. If you're getting the good stuff. It was around 3.50 to 4.00 before. Ground beef is still +/- 5.00/lb for 80 and 85%.

Product outages are still localized and temporary. One thing that's been shorter than normal, but still available, is 100% whole wheat bread. Cheap white bread is everywhere, but the primo stuff can be hard to find the brand you want. Sara Lee 100% whole wheat is usually there as a backup plan. I can't get 100% whole wheat burger buns to save my life though. I'm not really a fan of white bread any more so that kinda sucks because I like my homemade burgers!

Dickies and Carhart work clothes are a little thin. I had to start replacing a lot of my work pants and bibs and I'm having trouble finding bib overalls in my size. The Carharts are terribly expensive, $80 for plain uninsulated denim bibs, and the Dickies are $50 now if i can find them. I would think the stores would be overflowing because nobody wants to work, so why would they need work clothes, right?

Just a reminder, the "coincidences" continue!

I'm generally of the mind that there are no coincidences. But after seeing the amount of incompetence coming through our doors at work I tend to lean more toward worker burnout and ineffective training times for new employees being a major contributing factor behind many of these events. They want to hire inexperienced hands so they can shape them into the types of employees they want. But then throw them into the mix with little to no training.

Not sure what you do, but around here your qualifications start with your race, gender, sex preference,THEN what you might or might not know. my life got wrecked by an illiterate illegal they threw on a fork lift.
No wonder the quality of American workmanship is tanking!🤬

We have our share of "Blow not Know" guys here, but since the mid 90's some places have had to hire certain percentages of "minorities" Not limited to Mexicans who can barely weld or use heavy equipment and really militant... whatever the hell they are with the purple hair and whole colonies of piercings and chains in their face that ALWAYS screw up your order, no matter how simple it was and the goofball non discernible race/nationality guys who sling boxes for UPS.
Poorly I might add.
The country has gone to hell and all we can do is watch.

I've started buying these work clothes for my lads & OH on a site called Vinted in the UK. Not sure if it's in the States. Like eBay, but for clothes. Just tap in new with/without labels- bought several pairs lately, with shipping, for under 10. People have bought the wrong size and don't send them back, so offload them cheap.

To be honest I quiet looking for shortages, I am just keeping my in-home grocery store fully stocked and praying I have enough to get through to next 2 years. I have noticed that my (non-English speaking) neighbors are creating grow shelves in their front rooms (south facing) and adding growing pots to their decks. Everyone is quietly gearing up for a long lean winter......

Hey, @Magus don't worry about new coveralls, just keep your old ones and they will fit by spring ;)

I agree, but wonder why the mess has hit the fan in less than five years, over the last forty years. The real question is, are they rebuilding or investing the insurance money in bitcoin??

The Wife told me last night after grocery shopping in town that we will not be buying anymore mayonnaise.
The only brand she will buy, Dukes, (we’re Southern to the core) has doubled in price since Biden started improving the economy.
I asked about the other brands and she said they have increased in price too.
I think she said the 48 ounce jar of Dukes was now $7.
That might not sound like a big deal to some, but on a fixed income it is.
And even with me working part time, we are still under the federal poverty level.

If enough people stop buying the price will have to come down or the product will not sale.
