Anyone have a lathe?
I need a v-belt cut into this wheel

It would turn this 3” pulley into s 6” pulley

I don't have a metal lathe but if that steel is soft enough to file you could put it on the motor and take a file to it while turning and work a notch into it.

I have a lathe but never tried turning a pulley yet.

Have you tried sourcing the pulley you need?

Terre Products - V-Groove/V-Belt Drive Pulley, 6'' Outside Diameter, 3/4" Bore, Die Cast, Z3A Zinc Alloy, Compatible Replacement for Chicago Die Cast 600A https://a.co/d/hTJ1e51

If you can't source it I would need to know the bore size to ensure I have a mandrel to mount it on for turning.

I've cut a few things using a drill press as a makeshift lathe.
You have to be careful, some drill presses have a tapered socket for the drill head or the use of large drill bits, I've seen the tapered shafts get wallowed out from too much side thrust.

I have a lathe. One of the "heavy" tools I salvaged from my transmission shop.
I have made a v-belt pulley for an engine To properly align the belts and provide the ratio I needed.
It is not an easy task because of the precision required.

I have a very small metal lathe & a pencil wood lathe.
If it is for a car, I would check Pull-A Part.
If you need a step sheave, get one from an old drill press.

I have a lathe big enough for a 6" pulley.
But I would just buy a new 6" pulley if it was me.
If you really want I would try to do it for you but no guarantee if it didn't turn out.
No charge other than postage.
But again, I would just buy one.

Thank you for all the input guys, I was busy doing other things and thinking about this at at the same time. I decided instead of all the trouble machining why not simply sister a Pully to the hand crank wheel
Excuse the ugly hardware, I need to buy the correct bolts when I go to town

Changing the size Pully at the motor will allow me to slow the machine down
According to my pencil
2” pulley from motor to jack shaft 8” pulley. Then to the 3” on that shaft to the 6” we added

If motor is turning at 660 then the needle will cycle 72 times a minute

Hi @Frodo

I ran across this video talking about making a pulley from stock. It may share a clue about what it takes to make pulley.

Ben

Thank you Ben!
This guy reminds me of my shop teacher in High School.
