Already walked.
Today will be a cooking day.
First sweet potato treats for dogs.
Then, a black bean taco casserole of some type.
Then pumpkin muffins and some other type of muffin or cookie.
Should be a relaxing day.
WOOF WOOF ? I identify as as a dog, at the moment :)

Rested yesterday, more of the same today. Lots to do but I need to sit with my feet up. There’s a major family reunion this weekend. I’m looking forward to it. Great grandpa S. had 19 children which means I had 36 great aunts and uncles in that branch of the family. Only a couple of them left, hope they can attend. There will be a lot of folks I haven’t seen in ages. Folks who’ve been cooped up for 3yrs need a day out with family. Should be a good crowd, about 200 are expected. Everyone will bring food. The food tent is 60ft long and I’m gonna eat til I can’t move… southern home cookin’ at it’s finest.

Sort of funny… I’m glad someone told me about the reunion else the call I got last night would have made no sense. The phone rings and I said “hello”… Without introduction a voice I didn’t recognize asks “Are you gonna bring your banjo over to Doyles?” (I can’t type the heavy southern accent spoken without dentures 🤣) (The really funny part, I didn’t need an interpreter... 🤪)

The caller knew they were talking to me, just got the instrument confused. Lots of pickers in my family and I know several will be at the reunion. Guess I’ll make a couple calls and see if anyone wants to play. Folks might want to sing a few old hymns. Lots of singers in my family too.

That’s about it for here, a little tv, food and rest. I’ll probably find something simple I can do this afternoon and still feel like I accomplished something.

Not riding today after all... too many clouds, the kind that ruin photos. Besides, I slept in until 09:00, lol. Well, I woke earlier, looked out the nearest window, saw all the clouds, and crawled back under the covers. Now I'm sipping herbal tea (Celestial Seasonings 'Bengal Spice') and thinking about watering in the yard. Probably a good day to take inventory in the 'War Room' where I keep tools and home rehab materials... make sure I have everything I need to paint the kitchen & bathrooms. I'm pretty sure I have everything, but it won't hurt to check. Otherwise, I'm feeling a bit lazy... since I'm not going for my ride today, I'll probably just putter around and take it easy. The extra sleep did me good, maybe this is a seasonal thing after a long hot summer... I leave my bathroom window open at night to get that fresh cool air in my room, and it helps me get some nice deep sleep. Covers are back on the bed now, no more lying atop the sheets... a sure sign that summer has ended. ;)

Good news on the cat front: Tiger & Crackhead are touching noses with the kittens without hissing or growling at 'em, and Crackhead is even showing signs that he wants to play with the kittens! So that's good news... and it only took how long? 6 or 7 weeks? Sheeeesh. Once all the cats & kittens get along better, things will be quieter here at the ol' hacienda. The kittens are already scheduled to be fixed, starting with Zorlac in mid-October, the girls will be spayed in November. That should slow 'em down a bit once the process is complete and their hormone levels settle down... these kittens have been the most hyperactive critters I've ever seen. Maybe I'm just getting older and they SEEM more hyperactive, lol. So many times in past weeks, I was ready to give the kittens back to the shelter, but I didn't want to do that even though my home looked like a war zone. Now that the kittens are playing outside, they're burning off more energy & not trashing my home so hard.

P.S. Peanut, the reunion sounds awesome! Hang with the family, do a little pickin', eat some good food... can't beat that in my book. I hope you enjoy every minute of it! Love that Southern cookin'! I used to make a point of visiting one small truck stop in Alabama, over on I-20 on the west side of the state, as those little old ladies who worked in the kitchen could sure put together some good grub! I'd stop to eat there even if I didn't need fuel, it was that good! Lots of Southern specialties on the buffet table, including the best fried chicken I ever ate... downright delicious food, never a disappointment, 10-4? :brewing:

Spent several enjoyable hours in the yard: watering, pulling a few goatheads, and replacing seed cakes in some of the bird feeders. Played with the cats & kittens while I was out there, those kittens sure love the tall weed patch I left in place for 'em, and the other bushes in the yard. I want them to get in the habit of using those weeds & bushes for concealment, survival training for the youngsters... haven't seen any big hawks round here lately, but they're out there somewhere! I encourage the kittens to pay attention when doves and other birds fly round the yard, I want the kittens to keep an eye on the sky, ya know? Might save their lives someday if a raptor cruises the 'hood...

Otherwise, I'm enjoying my "day off" from recreation, the overcast sky is more suited to yard work anyway. I know there will be some killer views from this side of the Organ Mountains, and I want clear blue & sunny skies for the photos I'm gonna take. With luck, that'll be tomorrow, but we'll have to wait and see... as a younger man, I would've roared off this morning ANYWAY, but this is a Zen thing, an exercise in patience while knowing that a clear sunny day will make for a better excursion. I don't wanna post cloudy photos with limited visibility, I want y'all to see broad reaches of high desert, impressive mountain ranges, crags & spires against a blue sky, etc. "Patience, Grasshopper!!!"

I reckon I'll watch a movie here in a bit, or maybe read a Western novel... I'm satisfied with the work done so far today, and I've very happy to report that my eradication campaign against goatheads is actually working, I'm seeing WAY less of the irritating puncturevines on my property. I only pulled or scuffed about three dozen goathead vines today, which is a vast improvement! I'll still have a few more to deal with before Old Man Winter arrives, but the season is winding down and I'm SO GLAD that I caught all those goatheads earlier, especially the ones LOADED with fruit (or burrs). Should make a BIG difference next year, aye? Okey-dokey, I'm off to grab a beer and see what's on TV... hopefully something good! ;)

A lot can happen in 3 hours. Dad came over, upset about some weeds over by the old barn. So I hooked up the bush hog cut a few acres, cut another acre in the bull pen then went down and cut the shoulder of the hwy on both sides of the house. Make sure we have visibility to pull out into the road safely.

I came back to the house for bad news. Dad called to tell me, mom was trying to correct him in the background... don't think either of them really understood the chain of events.

Anyway, a cousin died, unsure if he died this morning or was found this morning having died a couple days ago. Darn... He was a good man, better than me anyway. I think he was 3 years younger than me. I drove by his house 2 days ago. Started to stop but didn't see his truck in the yard. He was a diabetic and had serious heart issues. And I know for a fact he got the vaxx...

It'll dampen the reunion this weekend. He's in a different branch of my family but everyone going to the reunion knows him. He was well liked...

I think the funeral is monday...

The pasture looks a little better. The cut area was waist deep in weeds.

Prayers for your family at this difficult time Peanut.

Actually, the vet told me that canned pumpkin was a good choice since it is easy on the stomach and had lots of fiber. He said to keep offering it to him if he will eat it to help keep things moving.
Pour cream on it and mix it a bit or margarine.

Condolences bro.

It's been raining here since around 12 and now I am having a glass of wine .
Animals are all dry and well fed in the barn. Puppy didn't want to go pee out in the rain but eventually did and I dried him off with a towel which he didn't like much . He kept biting it and trying to pull it away from me.
Made pizza
talked to daughter in Virginia Beach. I told her to make sure she had supplies in case power went out but she was like "MOM, I was raised by YOU in FLORIDA of course we are ready!" Her husband is flying to Florida Sunday to go to search and rescue school ( Navy) . I hope he will be ok doing that....that's almost Navy Seal.
My friends house in Florida had some flooding . She has never flooded before, must have been a bad storm. I haven't been able to get a hold of others, but they are not near the west coast so should be ok

I thought the peeing would have stopped when she got fixed!!😮 She doesn't know how lucky she is to have you!!
My puppy still pees in the house occasionally when he plays with the other dog and gets sidetracked. It's like it just leeks out of him while he's playing and he leaves a trail of pee on the floor....but he's only almost 5 month, so I hope he outgrows this

I got Bear at almost 5 months old, never been in a house! Took 10 days off of work, taught him to pee on command, NO accidents!!

Wow 2-3 pages to catch up on and it's past my bedtime. Our green beans are finally "on" so I've still been in the kitchen quite a bit. I have some tomatoes yet to get done. Also, still working on sorting and preserving onions in my spare time.
It's been way crazy at work. I was supposed to go camping with Hubby while he hunted a week and a half ago but his back was locked up so we didn't go. Now he's thinking of going this Tues. through Sun. and asked if I'm going with him. Oy! It's the first of the month. His timing is great, but I think I might go. I'd love to see the area (SW MT). It does mean I have a lot to do in the next 3 days though.
Hope you're all well. Nighty night.

Well, I might have a weather window here for visiting the Organ Mountains... it actually sprinkled here earlier, but I see blue skies to the south and west, so maybe I'll go ahead and pull my recon. I'd like to get some shots of those magnificent crags & spires over there, with blue skies in the background. Guess I'll make my lunch and pull the bike out of the shed before I grab my shower... I like to load the saddlebags before I get dressed in the armored riding suit, lol. It's a BILT brand suit, not bad, but it gets hot if you move around too much on foot. I like having the extra protection the suit affords, mainly for the pavement but also for the dirt. Same reason why I wear a helmet at all times, no need to fracture my skull in a mishap, lol. No future in that...
